Head room in 968 Coupe - How much?
#1

Hello,

Reading thru the forum, I ran into a comment about wanting more headroom. Well I am a little on the tall side, so how is the headroom in a 968? Anyone have a coupe that can measure from the seat (junction of the bottom and the back) and the headliner? Are there different heights of seats? Manual vs power? Do all coupes come with sunroofs? How much headroom do you lose with a sunroof? Any fixes (I saw the post about GT3 seats).

Just to be clear and consistent: Height from seat (junction of bottom and back), what seat, sunroof yes/no. Also, just so this topic covers everyone, could someone post the same info for a cabriolet?

Thanks

I have not measured the distance, but I am 5' 10" tall, have a race seat installed (so not a true comparison) and the only time I need more head room is when putting a helmet on. The car has a sunroof. I can clear this with a helmet on, but with the seat positioned to suit, the visor of the helmet when opened can sometimes just touch the sun visor.

Best option would be to sit in one and see.

Have to admit, getting in and out is a bit undignified.

I'm 6' 2" and didn't have an issue with the stock seats even in a racing helmet. I have a cab now and can help with the measurement which can change by several inches if the seats are lowered or raised with the electronic switch on the side; all US cars will be at least four-way power adjustable for height front and rear.

we've had a 6'5" member ( I know that, because I asked him ;" good grief, just how f'ng tall are you ?! ") say that he has no problem fitting in a coupe, without pressing up against the roof ( with the seat all the way down and all the way back ). I think if you're below that, as long as you don't have a cca 80's London mohawk spike crest hairdo, you should be ok..

hmm, I always thought the tilt-up steering wheel was invented to meet the demand for more " head room " .. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/blush.png" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

DS,

Only if you are blonde! Wasn't a sunroof made for more legroom for blondes as well?

One more - how does a blonde turn on the light? Open the door.

Really Craig , you're going to open this up for blonde jokes ?! They are countless, this would be the longest thread ever.. But here is one that combines CARS and blondes so we stay within the automotive forum topic , LOL..

A blonde notices a few dings in her car door and asks her mechanic how those can be fixed. The mechanic has had a few drinks at lunch and decides to have a bit of fun, so he tells her : when you go home make sure you wait for the exhaust to cool down and then blow on the tip as hard as you can, it should pop those dings right out ! So she does just as he said as her mom, also a blonde, pulls into the driveway. Her mom looks at the scene and says : what the hell are you doing ? To which the daughter replies : blowing the dings from the doors, but no luck so far. Mom pauses for a momment and then exclaims : you dummy ! Your windows are down, everyone knows they need to be all the way closed so the air does not escape ..that's the only way it'll work !!

DS,

You heard the one about the Vascular surgeon who wanted to learn how to fix his car? He went to the local technical college, and went through the whole course. For to the final exam where he had to repair an engine and then waited for his results. He searched the results sheet for his name and found it, right at the top of the class, he achieved 200% in his final exam.

He naturally was a bit confused about his final exam mark, so he went off to see the teacher. He asked him, how did I manage to get 200% in the final exam? - surely this is a mistake.

The teacher looked at him and said, no, it is no mistake. You got everything right, so you got 100%, and then, because you did it all through the exhaust pipe, I added another 100% for difficulty.

Thanks for the good chuckle. That's a good one I can use on a few friends.

Vascular surgeon ? He might have been a proctologist :-)

Back on topic : I'm 5'11" and recall when tracking the car my helmet did not touch the roof but the clearance was so small you could not fit a finger between the helmet and roof. Not sure that helps much, unless all regulation helmets have to be exactly the same size at all tracks and if so , perhaps someone her can advise how many inches it adds to your height .

believe it or not, this also changes whether you have early seats, late seats, or sport seats........by almost an inch

I am 6'4" and with my seat all the way down I have about two fingers width between the top of my head and the headliner - probably would hit with a helmet on. Unfortunately, with very few exceptions, all US 968 coupes came with sunroofs.

Flash has aftermarket Recaros in his car that sit noticeably lower than my stock seats - that might be an option for you.

I am 6'4" and I have a couple of fingers room in my sport seats but I have to have the roof out if I wear a helmet. My son is 6'6" an still doesn't complain about hitting the roof but his seat position is a little different than mine.

What does a blonde do after making love? She rolls down the window!

And then there was the blonde whose doctor told her to stop using her vibrator after she chipped a tooth.

rim shot!

And now for a smart blonde/car joke:

A beautiful expensively dressed blonde walks into a bank in Manhattan and asks to borrow $1000. She offers to put up her brand new Ferrari as collateral. After checking that everything is on the up and up, the loan officer readily agrees and exchanges the money for the keys to the Ferrari. A week later, the blonde enters the bank, pays back the loan in full, plus $10 interest. After giving her back the keys, the loan officer can't help himself, and says "I have to ask, why did you borrow the $1000 dollars, you obviously have plenty of money?" To which the blonde replied, "I had to go to Europe for a week - where else in New York could I park my Ferrari for the week for only $10?

were i to be tracking one of these, i would either gut a spare sunroof of it's headliner trim, or have a skin made that would install like the sunroof for track days, and run the normal one the rest of the time.

93nav, answers to your questions: 94 cm, late type fully electric seat at its lowest position, sunroof. I'm 6'2", no issues with head clearance. It is fine with helmet on also, though that depends on how you prefer to adjust our seating position.
