Hatch Motor Revisited
#1

Some years ago I replaced my '92 coupe's hatch motor after the original failed. The motor worked fine when operated from the cockpit switch, but turning the key lock at the rear of the car blew the fuse every time. I first tried a new switch back there, but no success. Several years ago I asked Omega Motorsports in Jacksonville to look at the issue. They suggested I might have the wrong motor. That seems to be the case. Recently, a motor advertised as a 968 version came up on eBay and I purchased it. It's now installed an works perfectly. In the course of my search for this solution, I asked here earlier if anyone knew whether 944s and 968s used the same part/part number for this motor (the PET parts manual shows quite a few wiring diagrams for these cars). I can now report that the motor that works carries part no. 951 624 024 01, whereas the one that caused problems is a 951 624 024 00. I own two additional motors, the one that I assume was the one that failed (remember this was more than five years ago), and it carries the same number as the newly purchased motor. My fourth motor is a 944 624 024 01. I pass this along in case others run into this issue.
