Greetings 968 fanatics
#1

Hi all,

Last month finally I bough an '92 968 in the color Zermat silver. My excuse, a carefully staged midlife crisis....with the blessing of my wife of course

Living in the Netherlands (in the province of Noord Holland) in the City of Amsterdam. The car was imported from Italy and has little over 83.000 KM on it. The car will be used a couple of times a week, it's main purpose is for the fun rides.

Becoming an member of the 968forums hopefully gives the opportunity to get an better understanding of some technical matters, get in contact with other 968 drivers.

For now goodbye and goodfun with your 968

Dan

Having the support of a loving wife makes all the difference. My wife often buys presents for my "Mistress" and my life is so much better for it.

Welcome and enjoy,

Jay

Of course as for many of us, it was a long standing wish come true. The fact the 968 is an rare not often seen model on the road also gives an feeling owning something special!

It does fit the car very well indeed. When I first saw the car my first thought were, its repainted with an non original color! I have only seen 944's in that color never an 968. Looking at the cars documentation prior to the sale I noticed option code L92A thats Zermatt Silver. Don't think it was on the standard 968 option list.

Welcome! Another pseudo Dutchie here...been living in the Netherlands for 6 years now.

I think you bought your car from the same dealer I bought mine....Witmer&Odijk? I seem to remember seeing this car on their website a couple of months ago. Very clean and beautiful car you've bought.

Autos zijn leuk!

Yep, bought the car from that dealer. Still says "Auto's zijn leuk" on the licence plate holder....agree with the statement, however no need to show it there. What area do you life at?

BTW, saw you obtained the RS Barn chip. Just ordered it payed via CC?

Yes, living in Utrecht.

Just send an email to RS Barn to order the chip and then pay via PayPal. I waited about 3-4 weeks for the stuff to arrive though so be patient. If I recall correctly Pete has to take some extra steps to declare the parts to customs and this is what causes the delay. But it's worth every cent!

Witmer&Odijk sell beautiful cars, but please have your car checked out by either Porsche or one of the specialists ASAP. When I bought my car, Hans promised me that all belts will be renewed...and that all fluids will be renewed as well. He had his workshop do the work...basically they only replaced the balance shaft belt and changed the oil, but they told me everything was replaced. About a month later I took the car to my regular mechanic (Car Care in Soest) for a once over and he checked the belts etc. He then showed me that the timing belt was so old and stretched it had no more adjustment left. He also tested my brake fluid and it was VERY old.

So if I blindly trusted Witmer&Odijk's workshop I would have had a serious problems with snapped belts very short after my purchase.

Just a cautionary tale.

Got something similar regarding whats done as maintenance by his garage. Everything should have been done.....reading over here the airbox mod made me investigate whats currently in there as filter. The filter was so old the filter material is partially gone leaving basically only the metal grid (looks like an old K&N). Have put the car on the bridge to inspect the underside of the car. My dad is an retired VW/Audi/Porsche mechanic which comes in handy more than once. The car did have work done on a number of suspension parts clearly visible. Slightly cautious whats hidden. Will check other areas of the car coming months. Anyway, Odijk is on holiday and will confront him in a few weeks.

Regarding the chip, I'll see if I can arrange fedex pick up...have family working there specialized in customs.

You are my new best friend

When you order the Chip make sure you order the Heatshield too. It's quite cheap and it protects the plastic parts, like heater control valve etc. hovering in the area of the exhaust manifold.

I assume that heatshield isn't an standard item on 968's? Noticed already the tremendous heat this big 4 cylinder can produce. More than any other comparable 3.0L.

Having an mechanic as an close relative saved me thousands of euro's over the 25 year of driving. Him being retired now does force me occasionally to pay for things

Congrats and welcome. Zermatt is indeed a rare color. I can't say for sure how things worked in Europe but in the US sales code 55 was one of 10 "special" metallic paint offerings for the 968 in 1992 only, holdover colors from the late eighties/early nineties. They cost $1600 extra as opposed to $803 for a "standard" metallic. Not too many were sold in North America. For cabs, only one Zermatt silver car was produced and it looks like only one coupe. I'm curious, how do you think the color compares to the much more popular polar silver?

I would say It's almost gold or champagne (how its actually called often during the 944 sale period). The color has one minor downside, it appear there is color difference between doors, frontpanel etc... depending from which angle you look. Walk one meter further along the car and its gone. Some people say, hey the door is repainted.....owell

As far as I know something similar is standard on the tiptronic, but I am sure. Have a look at this thread http://www.968forums.com/index.php?showtop...hl=heat++shield

Found an little heatshield sitting near guess a plastic valvehouse. I'll check the thread.

Just did the airbox mod. I am amazed at the design....I have had motorcycles with bigger and better designed airboxes while the engine capacity was less then 1/3 of the P. Now waiting for the K&N filter. Later this week I'll decide where I'll purchase the chip.
