Got the FIOS going on!
#1

Verizon just spent the last year tearing up the city to install a new fiber optic system they call FIOS. It is generically known as FTTP (fiber to the premises) Anyway I just had it installed and it is like a T3 line for every house! amazing speed. 15M down and 2M up (cable is typically 1.5M down at best). I almost feel single handedly responsible for sucking the bandwidth out of 968forums! (almost)

They also pipe the phone and TV over the same fiber. Amazing stuff coming to selected cities across the US.

Here is my DSL reports speed test.

Very nice. They staged the contractors for it on my block and they did the whole town and stopped at the staging area 1/2 block from my house. I can hit the dslam with a rock from my mailbox but can't get the good stuff I max out at 3mb copper connection.

Lucky Dude. How could you possibly use 15M? Comcast Cable is ~3.4MB, but 15MB is wow! You should host your own sites

You do find that a lot of speed is at the server end of the pipe. My Google Earth doesn't seem to run 15x faster than before.

Oh yea, Verizon has an agenda, to elbow out Cable. Right now they have my phone and internet coming down the fiber, and will be offering TV as soon as the litigation is over.

It all comes over with room to spare apparently.

Yeah but giving that kind of BW away is killing their peering points which costs money. with Optical they have more room then you know to spare. They can handle all of HB TV, phone and Internet on that fiber depending on the hardware they could run multiple OC192's. Yeah the Cable companies have been kicking in the balls for the passed few years Comcast has all of my business. Digital DVR Cable, Phone 3 lines, and 3Mb Internet. I just sign my pay check over to them.
