Montreal F1, anyone going ?
#1

I'm considering heading to the great white north to see the race , tickets are reasonable IMO, flights also not too bad, but downtown hotels are stupid-expensive Certainly not atypical of events like this one, but still...pretty annoying.

Is anyone else here going, or at least seriously thinking about going ? ( except if you live in or near Montreal of course )

I am ... 6 hr drive for me, plus it is where I hail from, so a few extra days spent w/ family will be a nice break.

Cant make it this year but have been going since '94 (except for last yr of course) If you go, here are a few tips:
- best seats are west side of the Senna Curve, or on the exit side of the Hairpin, where you see them enter at about 295km/hr, brake to 50km in less than 75m, and hard on the gas out of the corner and up the back straightaway - best place for passing
- be sure to go to Crescent Street for the party Friday and saturday nights - go to "Newtown" (Villeneuve's bar)
- take the subway, dont even think of driving anywhere close to the island
- in the early yrs we used to stay downtown, but more recently have stayed closer to the west end, even near the airport (~10 min drive to Angrignon subway station, then 45 minutes to the track), buy all your subway tickets the first day
- when you leave on Sunday after the race, along with the other 125K people, stay to the FAR LEFT to enter the subway station - this will save you tons of time getting off the island
- best race of the weekend is usually the Ferrari Challenge, (usually goes 9:00 am race day) - dont miss it; leave early to get to the track
- food, drinks are allowed on site

ayez l'amusement!

So much for my plans to attnd this year's F1, my best friend's 50th b-day bash which was originally supposed to take place the weekend following the race, was moved up one week due to lack of available venues ; his wife is arranging a rather large party
( in Santa Barbara ) and all suitable places were booked, but a few available the previous weekend .. great , now I have to record the race and make a note to start planning early to attend the 2011 Montreal GP instead.
