I can't remember the last Thanksgiving we got 10" of snow. I bet skiers like global warming.
There is a very simple explanation for the abundance of snow : because the earth is flat ( just as God made it in his hobby shop in the heavens about 5000 years ago..) as the Sun rotates around the earth, when it gets underneath it ( that's at nighttime when we don't see it , and we have to live in the dark ) it warms up the oceans floors, causing that heat to rise to the top, which in turn causes the surface water to evaporate into the sky and when currents carry that vapor over the arctic circle by the north pole , Santa Claus turns it into snow and blows it over Buffalo... and Pennsylvania . Told you global warming and the effect it has on snow is simple. Some lunatic scientists also attribute the excessive snow on the oceans and seas rising temperature' effect on moisture meeting with cold arctic currents over land, but they have a different theory that my facts as stated above, so I don't believe them just yet .

Yours sounds more reasonable and logical and it doesn't suffer from a political bias. I will take one foot over 7 anytime and be happy with it!

As an engineer (ChemE USC '70) I am very interested in man's effect on our planet. It's complicated and very worthy of study and action where warranted. However I do not get how the argument of human induced global warming is enhanced by denigrating those with religious faith. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/huh.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

Slight shift here, but how do ambulances or fore trucks get trough to people in need, responding to emergencies during the first day or two of a monumental 6-7 ft snow fall ? Snow plows probably clear most main thoroughfare roads overnight, but there are still tons of streets in numerous neighborhoods buried and blocked. under impassible snow. Do these vehicles have a low escort on every trip or are they equipped with plows , or what ? Either way, it must slow down everything to a snails pace -- ugh, not good for anyone in need of urgent care.

Not dissing anyone with religious " faith " per se, it was more of a tongue in cheek comment on the dogmatic belief stubbornly held by a not so small number of the population who reject any and all facts about global warming by citing bible stories as their supporting argument. Particularly, and above all, many politicians who are given media time to promote their views on the topic.

i find it hysterically ironic that the same people who refuse to believe in global warming, in spite of all of the logic, reasoning, and data, because they still just don't see enough "proof", are the same ones that believe in something with no proof, or even the slightest bit of evidence to support it, and in fact a growing amount of evidence to disprove it

Obama won't ok the pipeline because his friend and high dollar Democratic donor Warren Buffett makes $2 Billion year moving the same oil south on his trains.

In case you haven't noticed there are secular kooks and religious kooks, right wing kooks and left wing kooks. My comment stands. Making derogatory comments lessens you and does not enhance your argument.

that's not why he won't sanction it. he won't do it because it's a BAD IDEA. we should leave that oil in the ground. putting in a pipeline would only further encourage the raping of the planet.

making derogatory comments does not necessarily lessen anyone, and it might enlighten and educate somebody. sometimes that's what it takes to make somebody actually think for a change, instead of blindly following. moreover, nobody made any derogatory comments, and if they have been perceived as such by anyone, it is only because the recipient believes them to be true at some level, or isn't intelligent or educated enough to know the difference.

way too many thin skinned sheep out there, blaming their lot in life on somebody else.

The oil is coming out of the ground either way. The only question is does Warren Buffet and the Dems get the $2B a year in train fees or does the oil move much faster, cheaper, and safer, across the country via a pipe that will also provide tens of thousands of jobs. Mostly Union at that. Stopping Keystone will not stop the oil from coming up. Not even close.

unfortunately, you are probably correct in that it is coming out anyway. however, there is a lot we can do to limit it by making it more expensive. making it cheap and easy is not a good idea. that is how we ruined the planet in the first place.

as for jobs, that's a lame argument. we would have a LOT more jobs if we spent that money on alternative renewable energy development, and almost none of them would be union.

it's likely to be more of the same short-sighted thinking though, and we will keep on doing what we have been doing, and make the same mistakes we have been making, all because we keep putting the dollar first.

of course, now that it looks like no matter what we do from here, it won't be enough, that there is no saving the planet, and that we have already seen the first of the last generation of humans who will reach old age, we may as well go out with a bang.

Towns have their own plow team/contractors. They drive around all night plowing and salting until the storm is over. We do have snow emergencies where no cars are allowed to be parked on the roads so that there is room for clearing and later snow removal if needed.

Yes, it is expensive.

Oops, I should have clarified:

- my Van, so it was regular gas (not 91).

- it was at the Vons gas station, so I got a $0.20 discount on each gallon. If you buy enough at Vons, periodically a gas discount pops up when you go to the station.

Yep, last year I believe Boston spent only 18 million over the winter, was not that bad a year.
