G44 Transmission consensus?
#1

I was looking at some goodies for the 968 and was just curious about the general consensus of Porsche mechanics regarding the G44 tranny. And, I guess the motor for that part. I know about the pinion ring and the belt changes in the motor but are they considered "bulletproof" like the earlier 911 engine/tranny? From what I can gather, I think the 3L motor is pretty darn solid and can take a lot of abuse? What about the tranny?

Just curious...

Not sure if you'll get a qualified answer - not many know the G44 well. If I recall the Turbo 68 used the same trans and that 3L was rated at over 300hp.

it's a fairly tough box, but not rated for high hp - besides the pinion bearing, when it fails, it tends to fail on low gears like most boxes

the turbo used different gears, and i'm betting a tougher input shaft
