made and installed a new upper grill sunday. doesn't use bent 'tabs' to hold it in, so it can be removed more than once if necessary. i have enough mesh to make 2 more....

I like the looks of the replacement mat'l. Where did you source the material? My lower grill has a few holes in it and it will be on my list sometime.

Ok guys here is what I did. Found McNichols metal products web site (not affiliated). They will cut anything that you need. For my top and bottom grills I ordered their flattened expanded #304 stainless steel #16 - 1/2 piece large enough for both grills. This pattern allowed for 70% opening. They cut to my size and attached to a piece of plywood for shipping, wrapped in cardboard and it arrived perfectly flat. Hint - you have to be perfectly clear on how you want the dimensions to be oriented - which measurement for the long dimension of the diamond shaped opening and which for the height.
The upper grille(mouth) turned out very nice and I painted black w/clearcoat. Have not completed the lower yet but it will be the same color and pattern.

Hi Carl, Do you happen to remember the correct dimensions you ordered for the bottom and top grill? What type clips did you use to attach the grills?
Cheers,

Hey Larry:
The piece I ordered was 18" W buy 49" L with the long dimension of the diamond shape oriented with the Long dimension of the sheet. As I said earlier, you have to be specific with these guys on the orientation. It took them three tries to get it right with mine - at their expense. I have only done the upper grille at this point. No clips were used. Once I shaped the upper grille I rigged it to be removable and attached it with get ready for this, " electrical wire". Coated so it will not scratch. My '92 has all of the engine covers so all the attachment points are hidden but accessible for removing.
