Front License plate bracket
#1

Well ............. I got busted here in Newtown, CT for not having a plate on the front of my girl. I had the plate in the windshield, which looked like s..t anyway, but that didn't count. It got me a warning instead of a ticket though. Sooooooooo where do I get the bracket? The dealer here continues to give me the " If you guys with 968's would buy from us instead of on line we would stock your supplies" I don't have a lot of time to comply. I have seen brackets for around $46.00 but are they the right ones? Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Ross

Hmmm... I rescued my car from NJ and brought it to NC - a no front plate state. I may still have the frame in the garage.

My car came from NC to NJ, and I purchased the front license plate bracket from my OPC.

have you looked up the law and its specific language? in california, there are loopholes that make for the ability to leave it off - you may have those there too

of course, that means that you will have to go to court and fight it, which is more expensive than just paying the ticket

for me though, it is worth it, because i am not drilling holes in my bumper cover - period

Here is one that went for $9.99 on ebay: Frame.

The reason I was tracking this is because I have to bring my car into DMV for some kind of new inspection to complete the salvage process, and I am worried that they will check for this. We don't need no STINKIN' HOLES in our bumper cover!!! My current plan is to try to rig something for the inspection, like using duct tape hidden behind it to make it appear as if the front plate on. So give me any ideas please, on some temporary way to attach it without hurting the cover.

Roland

PS: My son took his driving test in the 968 last year. Part of that process is actually to check the operating condition of the car that the student is using for the test. So the test person (DMV employee) went all around the car checking lights, turn signals, horn, etc. standard stuff. I did not have the front plate on for this event, and the guy didn't catch it or complain about it.

since you have to take it to dmv for an inspection, technically you could do it without plates altogether, surrender those, and pick up new ones there, but there is nothing about having to install them on site - they can't require that you bring tools - i did this when i brought my car into california

they are strictly administrative, not enforcement

That is a really good point flash, it reminded me something I forgot. I have to surrender the old plates anyway, and they required a new plate number. Duh... guess I'll just leave the front off and see what happens. Yeah, and besides, when you first register a car, they just hand them to you, they don't check that they got mounted, until like you said, enforcement.

When I brought the car into CA from AZ I went to the DMV in Clairmont. No front plates - never said a thing.

yeah - they looked at the VIN - that's it - the whole thing didn't last 2 minutes - i don't even think they made me turn the lights on

as i said, they are strictly administrative - they are looking to see that the car is the one you say it is - then they register it - it's up to you to get everything on it that it should have

Thanks for all the great feedback.................Is my car different than yours........I have two pugged holes in the front bumper. The plate will still look like kaka and I have decided to take my chances of getting busted and run without the plate. Oh my what a rebel.

Thanks
