Forum Track Participants

Last weekend at Schattenbaum's DE/Cup race at Thunderbolt there were amazingly enough 5 968's. I've never been to any track event with so many 968's. Many being relative of course. All but one were heavily modified including mine. Mine is not a cup car. One was not modified at all and was the same color as my garage queen. The gentleman that drove it was older and, although participating in an advanced driving event, was much slower than the other cars on the track. When he got settled after the first day he used his mirrors properly. Even on street tires our car is fun to watch if properly driven. This guy was a hoot and was just out to have fun. He must have forgotten what it's like to drive today on a track with so many high horsepower cars!

I highly recommend watching a cup race if you haven't because it gives you an opportunity to see not only some highly competitive racing but 944's and 968's along with the ever more ubiquitous boxster.

One month after my incident at Thunderbolt I returned for Schattenbaum's year ending DE. I made arrangements to drive a spec boxster for the weekend. The biggest accomplishment was getting out on the same track and not to have to wait 6 months before my next driving event. Jumping into a car and driving one that was entirely different from 968 was an experience. Despite some tire issues, a slippery track and a somewhat catastrophic failure of a part coming around the octopus it was interesting. It was until Sunday's second and third runs when the car was settled that I got a true feel. Interesting car that one could progressively get better at. Yet not quite the same feel as our 968.

Pablo offered me an opportunity to drive his car but I was not comfortable with the slippery track and declined. Another friend offered to let me drive his new 911 but I passed for the same reason. The hunt continues for a new track car with multiple options currently!

Thanks Jay! Contorting your body to get into the car was interesting!! To say the least.
