The safety issue is one to consider. I only made the "seat" mod for short, emergency runs when there was an issue. I keep the cubbies out because it looks cleaner to me, not to allow children to ride in the rear as if it were a "real" 4 seater...it is NOT.
I'll take the risk with my non air bag steering wheel, but I am very fearful when I put my son in the rear seat. Emergency is the main use here.

as for "older = unsafe" technically, yes, for many reasons - older parts are less safe - older designs are less safe - older safety standards are less safe

this one is pretty easy though - common sense says that no shoulder belt = unsafe

My kids rode back there all the time, until they grew legs [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif[/img] We used the car a lot more because of those rear seats. They are just as safe as taking the kids for a drive in a 90-91 944 cab.

I am thinking about the rear seats for exactly this reason, be able to take the "kids" along sometimes, which will make us use the car on more occasions. The 968 was meant primarily for quality time with the wife, but the kids are also important! [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif[/img]

if you want a real recommendation, and really need to have logic thrust forward:

have your kid sit in the back seat, belt in, and close his eyes

then reach behind his head and grab it and slam his face forward into the back of the front seat - if he stays conscious................

this is exactly what would happen in a crash

do what you want though
