Door bumper gaurds
#1

Are the door gaurds on this car a factory option? If so, can they be removed without body work or did they drill holes for some sort of clip?

They are glued on. I have a set from a Euro car that I was going to put on my 944 S2 but decided I didn't like the look.

The long piece on the door is attached via one screw and double sided tape - the door piece actually wraps around the outside edge of the door and the screw is then installed "inside" on the jamb portion of the door. The two small pieces are completely attached via double sided tape.

And yes, they were a factory option. I have a set in my garage and am comtemplating putting them on in the future.

So it sounds like you can get them off without messing things up too bad? Anyone here taken these off?

I've taken them off a couple of cars. You need to put new double sided tape on to reattach them...the thin 3M stuff only available at auto body shops and the like, but yes, you can get them off without damaging them or the body of the car. There will be the long and tedious after process of removing the old glue however!

They are option code 418, cost $350 new on the car, and the replacement parts are not cheap new.

Price for mine just went up.....

I think I let a set go for 15 or 20 bucks from my 944 a few years back. I have a set available now if anyone wants them.
