Body Color Bumper Insert Matching
#1

Can anybody tell me if there was an option from the factory to have the bumper inserts that are normally black rubber/plastic painted to match the color of the car? I am looking at a 968 that has this, and was curious if it was a sign of aftermarket meddling, or if the car could come ordered that way.

Same thing with a replacement of the armrest box with shallow tray that includes a cup holder near the rear.

Pics of these items are below:

The "Bumperetts" have been replaced (or painted) the originals are all black, the center console is right for a cab (a coupe would have the cassette holder and door instead)

The bumpers on the front can be eliminated with European turn lenses that fill the place left by the removed black bumperetts. You can see what they look like on my 968 in the pic below. See this forum under "modifications" for part numbers, prices and installation notes.

Or, they can be painted to match as can the rears. See the sponser bar to the right.

On my cab I actually have the cassette holder and door for my center console. I must say though, having that tray and a little cupholder would be nice.

On a side note, the car looks very nice. The seats look like they are in great condition...I am just starting to get some nasty wear on mine.

Not original maybe just personal taste. I had mine painted to match the car, of course I had the whole car painted a non-original color [basalt black].

yeah, the bumperette thing is personal taste - i don't like bumperettes at all, but i like them even less in color - here's my other thought: if they happen to have to do their job, you then get to repaint them, right? yeah, i've had quite enough of that with the splitter - lol

annoyed by the lack of a cupholder, i thought about the cupholder/tray - however, it's right at the elbow, and in the perfect spot for me to knock over whatever i had there and spill it back behind the seats - i'm just the clumsy guy to do that too - i also use the armrest and compartment there - perfect spot for the altoids, change box, remote, etc, and the aformentioned elbow

i opted for the 9xauto cupholder instead

Well, looks like I'll be buying the thing. Only step left is to travel to take a final look and confirm that its in as good shape as the pics indicate.

Hopefully in a few weeks I'll be able to post to this board as an official member of the community.
