Difficult Start
#1

Just when you think she's purring at you she gently bites than whammo. You may as well spin her by the tail cause she ain't gonna lite off. Ok..Seriously, I am finding that on occasion the car doesn't want to lite off (start). This morning it took three attempts. The other afternoon, it was three or four. Starter engages fine, sounds strong, RPM get moving quickly. Running Premium in Shell or Chevron and have 38K miles on her. I don't over rev her but she get's excersize to 4k RPM fairly often.

When I bought her from the PO, I did several treatments (3) of Techron and then to the dealer for oil and exam. New brakes, clutch, Flywheel and 1K in misc. new parts for the interior/exterior, they released her and she has been great! Fuel economy is about 20.5 avg city/highway so with gasoline killing us all, I'm glad I drive her and dumped the Expedition we had.

I have changed the air filter (was dirty), the DME relay to the newer one but have not touched plugs, cap, rotor or Fuel filter. No check performed on the Throttle switch, pump pressure, fuel injector spray pattern or leak down rate of fuel from the rail. If I were someone else, I'd say: clean the injectors, check the plugs, cap, rotor and change out the filter. But, thats me. What do you all think?

Well since you did the DME relay, and it runs fine once it starts, I would say the "check valve". I would do the fuel filter while you're in there.

Yea, the fuel check valve is a good call. Also could be a leaky injector. The fuel pressure is draining from the fuel rail and that requires extra grinding on the starter to get the pressure up before she will kick.
