P-dealers have them in various sizes, but IIRC, so does performance products (catalog) - I don't know if I still have the copy I just got last week but I'll look for it

I trust you noticed your ( EX-) phone in the cubby box ?

[quote name='ds968' date='Apr 22 2006, 06:57 PM']It arrived, it's in place, it looks good...BUT...the cut-outs leave a tiny bit more room around some areas of the instruments panel and the knobs than I would have liked. I did not take a photo yet ( may be will do that tomorrow). The spaces I'm talking about would not show up on the picture anyway- it's probably less than a mm, yet still enough to bug me just a little. My MBZ dash trim fits all the way under the knobs and switches, so it has far less of that "applied on" appearance to it. Of course it had to be done that way on the 968 in order to accomodate the numerals around some of the knobs but that, coupled with the cut outs around the "phantom switces" where only the black plastic shows trough, are details that stand out a bit too much. As does the clock area now ( I'm going to contact them to see if I can get a spare piece of the material to fill in that area and the missing switches spaces )

Maybe it's one of those things you just get used to I suppose...

Dan, looks great. It looks similar to my kit ,with the pattern called - Lorenzo Burl. When I ordered mine I told them what switches I had and did not have; they left the shifter area solid in the areas that I did not have switches. I would make a call and ask them if they could re-cut that piece with the areas that you do not have switches uncut.

If it really bothers you, this will solve the problem without a lot of work involved. If they can not do this, ask for plugs to place over the vacant switch locations, similar to the ones used on the ends of the dash piece.

Brian,

I've been in contact with them and they indicated they could either sell me a piece from which I could cut my own plugs - a 6x6 would cost $ 45 ( but they also said polyurithane is extremely difficult to cut straight and it will not have the rounded off finish the factory pieces do ) or tel them the plug sizes I need and they can machine cut them for me ( as long as they are simple squares or rectangles ) - I send them the dimensions and waiting for a price now... I suspect it will not be inexpensive though..

Should have thought in advance to do what you have... tell them which areas to leave filled in -

Brian,

I never realized that these kits aren't cookie cutter kits. I gather you could delete the cigarette tray by just getting a solid piece over it?

Hope someone else orders a cookie-cutter kit in dark synthetic burlwood from these folks - that way, I'll just ask the factory to send me the punch-out material; talk about perfect pugs to use for the gaps. But then again, anyone here will want those areas left covered, so I can only rely on orders coming in from who knows where for a '86+ 944... could be a long wait ... I may spend the $$$ to have them customize these plugs, which might cost me as much as the entire kit

Dan,

Your trim looks good. Can I ask, who did you order it from? Are you happy with the quality and was it easy to install?

Tim,

Thanks. From this place : http://www.exoticwooddash.com $ 150 + tax + s&h

Installation is ridiculously easy ( even for me, a person with neither the patience nor the skill for any "manual labor" ).

Although I think the quality is as good as it gets for "synthetic wood", it does look ..well, synthetic. Not that there's anything wrong with that, many expensive cars use the same thing, but it still won't look like real wood that's been coated.

I think they do have the wood trim kit at this place and I believe it's more expensive but I am told it requires continuous treatment or it'll look like crap after a year or so. Being lazy as well, I opted for the hassle-free product.
