Dash vent inserts - yes or no?
#1

My dash is in overall "OK" shape, one large crack coming off the vent on the far left side, a few other minor ones, no major cracks other than those.   I thought about using a dash cover to protect it further, but don't really like the look, and a bit worried about how dash covers obstruct the passenger airbag.

I happened across a guy on Facebook that 3D prints "inserts" for the later 944 defroster vents on the dash and decided to give those a shot.  Since those are where my cracks are starting, I thought these inserts may "cover up" the cracks, and perhaps provide a bit more cover/shade to prevent new ones in the rare time my car is out in the sun.

I put them in today (just insert and they "snap" in place) - not sure if I'm going to keep them in.    Here's a couple of before/after pics - thoughts from the group?

I agree...Garage9 has a nice alternative.

With respect Velocity they look a bit clunky to me, but it's personal. One job is to reduce further cracking, so if they perform that function then keep them until you find something you prefer. My dashboard is not cracked, but partly faded (15 years in the Middle East) I guess I'll eventually address that issue.

Agreed on the clunky look - I've already ordered the Garage9 alternative - think that'll look much better.

Join the club , you’re in good company !   I’m still addicted to the 968 and can easily take small dash cracks, seat bolster wear, and all sorts of other time-impacted issues over 90% of cars out there which may be in showroom condition.

As for the dash vents inserts , yes the original option is a bit of a clunky look, so the garage9 is aesthetically better, IMO, just don’t put one of those f-ugly felt or carpet-like dash covers on, or you may as well add fuzzy dice hanging from your rear view mirror, and curb feelers on your wheels .  Wink

When I was looking at my first 968 the owner had this fugly  brown shag carpet on his dash with his name put on it He also had his name put on the outside by the door handles. I guess he couldn’t remember his name. The look was so gross. Plus I caught him lying to me about an issue regarding the car.

I like the look of this vent cover but I have no idea where it can be purchased. Has anyone seen it before?

That looks like it might be the one piece rolled steel vent cover from Garage9, as mentioned above.  I just received the two piece flexible Garage9 vent cover, but haven’t installed it yet.

Bill: Please post how the install goes. I am sure there are some tricks to it.
