Engine rail cover lettering fill
#1

A previous owner of my car polished the cam cover and injector rail cover, which I like, but just seemed to be missing...something.    After a bit of research, I found a company in Canada by the name of Garage9 that sells raised letter fillers for the "Porsche" logo on the injector rail cover (see https://garage9.com/collections/944/prod...ring-78-96).

Decided to go with black lettering - here's a quick pictorial of the install process and final result!

Here's my engine bay when I started - as I mentioned, I like the polished look - think a previous owner MAY of tried to "paint" the lettering, or that may just be accumulated dirt/grime in the letters - hard to tell.  ;-)

Engine bay before:

Removal of the injector rail cover on top is 4 hex head bolts, 2 on intake side, and 2 around the "Variocam" plaque on opposite side.   Found out during removal I'm missing one of the bolts on the intake side, will need to find the part number and get one next time I'm ordering something else.  :-)    Here's the intake side of the motor with cover removed.   Previous owner also added a permanent fuel pressure gauge on the motor.

Once I had the cover removed, I moved it to an easier place to work on it.    Here's the cover before any cleaning:

I spent about 30 minutes with simple green cleaner, shop towels, and a toothbrush to clean out lettering (mainly to ensure good adhesion of new lettering fillers) followed by another cleaning using isopropyl alcohol (per instructions) - here's the result after that cleaning:

I test fitted the lettering, got a heat gun (per instructions to mildly heat lettering prior to application to activate adhesive), and was ready to begin (new filler lettering is upside down in this pic, you're seeing the underside of it) :

Once completed, here's what it looks like off the car:

...and the final result in the engine bay :

Overall, I'm pretty happy with it - adds a bit more "bling" to the engine.    No real purpose other than looks, but seems to serve that purpose (the looks) to me!

I like that aesthetic , Jaeger ( or maybe Jager ? ) Engineering in Canada was one of the sources for those many years ago, and where I ordered mine, but good to see you can find them elsewhere .

Nice one! I painted mine as I didn't know the inserts existed. The painting was a messy process, you definitely chose the right approach, and if you like it that's all that matters. Good result Smile

Well done, great result!

There is a pressure unit or so (next to the O letter). Whats that and why did you install it on the engine?

Are you planning to polish the intake manifold as well?

The letters look great.

It's a fuel pressure gauge - previous owner installed it on there.   Helpful for troubleshooting fuel delivery problems, I'd assume - so far all I've needed it for was to confirm my "fuel pump prime" solid state DME relay replacement was working as advertised.    It is... ;-)

I DO have oil pressure/temp, water temp, and air/fuel mixture gauges inside the car :

I saw those after I checked out the link in your dash vent thread. Nice to see someone still offering parts for these old beasts. Funny thing, I was just thinking about painting mine yesterday when I was spraying out the engine compartment to clean the spilled ATF from my leaking PS hoses. Now I need to decide on blur, to match my car, or red, because: red.

Btw: I as also searching for something non related and noticed GT Racing sells some things as well. Mostly race related fiberglass body parts but also sells an OEM-style splitter.
