Cracked firewall experience/solutions
#21

I have just descovered that I also have this problem. I have added D1R's brace to it, but plan to get the firewall repaired.

Does anyone have pictures of the problem?

Thanks

Didn't you just have a new engine installed? Was the problem only discovered after the installation? <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/ohmy.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

Yes,

Not discovered until they were setting up the clutch...

Trying to figure out a way to repair while using flash's brace.

anyone have DIY solution that works?

Should the brace be enough or does the firewall need repair?

An expense that I do not need/want after the engine and the " while we are in here" bill from my PM.

I have this problem as well. It came to light when I replaced the clutch. I've installed the D1R brace and that helps. but there is still some movement. My PM says that it requires about 8 hours of labor to remove and replace everything on the front side of the firewall so that you can weld in a plate. The car will be going in to have this done. With the D1R brace in place and a new clutch, I have to depress the clutch pedal all the way to the floor board in order to shift without catching the gears. I have probably no more than 1/2 and inch of travel before the clutch grabs.

chris - i'd like to see your clutch and firewall. that is an awful lot of travel. the brace should be limiting the movement quite a bit. that would leave the clutch itself as the culprit there.
