OK SO HEAR GOES WITH THE CRAZY ENGINE SWAP IDEA...OR IS IT NOT SO CRAZY
#1

Hello,

So here I go with eyes wide open and after 30+ years the ability to listen.

Drumrole please....................................

What about the idea of putting a Porsche Cayenne 4.5 L 521 hp (389 kW) 531 ft·lbf (720 N·m) twin-turbocharged V8 (Turbo S) engine out of a wrecked SUV into what we love, a front engined 50/50 weight balance 6 speed Porsche 968.

Regards,

Art

PS

That looks beutiful and not to mention is more unique and rare than any porsche built in the past 25 years short of 959, GT Supercar, or limeted editions such as rs, speedster, GT2, GT3, etc.

was it necessary to make two threads about this?

I would be very surprised if that motor would fit, and if it did if that weight balance would remain anywhere near the same.

Sounds interesting. I do not know the dimensions of the Porsche engine but it looks too wide and probably is too heavy as well. Of course, lots of folks think the same thing about the Chevy V8 and it fits just fine. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

Wrecked Cayenne or not, if the engine is in good shape I still imagine you couldn't buy it for anything less than... $ 10,000 ?!

Anybody ?

A 928 motor has been stuffed in a 944 chassis -- but I believe that process involved cutting the front-end and reworking the body panels. I'm sure with enough time and money, you can shove a Cayenne motor into a 968 chassis, but I doubt you'll be left with anything that resembles a 968....

The Porsche Cayenne has approx 30 control units linked through CANBUS. All of the systems communicate through a network therefore all of the control units need to be in place. If the engine would fit, an after market engine management system (MOTEC,BIGSTUFF3 or LINK) would be required to run the engine. I guess it could be done but the cost would be $$$$$. Not to shoot this down, but I would turbo the 3.0 before I tried this conversion .

The Cayenne V6 is more likely to fit, and is lighter.
