Clutch vibes = normal?

Quote:FYI, the clutch release forks has replaceable pin bearings...those forks are spendy if I recall correctly.

JMO,

My guy insists I get a new one. I didn't argue the point. After the DMF and green stripe plate it's a drop in the bucket.

Update:

Got the 968 back from the shop. New clutch with green-stripe pressure plate is AMAZING. Very light and smooth. "Buttery" is an excellent descriptor.

I was having the problem with bad vibration past 4K. I had a new DMF put in as well. The shop found that the balance belt was off by a tooth. No explanation for why - only had a few hundred miles since the replacement in February.

So now I've had the clutch done, new DMF, new motor mounts, belt realigned, cam timing done. End result is that the whole driving experience is an order of magnitude smoother, all the way to redline. I can't emphasize how much nicer it is to drive.

If I really focus on it, I can still feel "vibes" through the clutch at high revs but the vibration is minor. About the same as what I feel through the accelerator pedal at high revs, which I would consider normal.

It was much more than I wanted to spend  Rolleyes  - but the end result was worth it. Rock

Nothing like having a 968 that drives like it should! Pretty nice car when all is well.

It could be the bushings at the bottom of your shift lever...still, if it's minor, I wouldn't go crazy looking for every little vibration.

Yeah, the shifter has what I would call a "well broken-in" shift pattern. I've come to enjoy it as the character of the car. The vibration at this point, I'm pretty sure, is normal for the car.

As an aside - thought I would mention - before it went in I had to R&R the clutch pedal helper spring and needed to drive it a couple of days with the 964 pressure plate without the blue helper spring. Holy moly! It was seriously like 120 lbs of force to disengage the clutch. I immediately understood why these cars have firewall problems - the amount of force needed with the heavier PP is ungodly. I don't have any visible cracks on my firewall and I've got my fingers crossed that the new pressure plate will keep it that way...

$2100 - heh - you got a sweet deal at about 50% of my parts & labor cost.

I agree that the release with the new clutch is totally different - on my car, a "longer" friction point and more modulation.
