Clutch pedal on floor
#1

Hi everyone, Took my 968 out for a short ride this evening. very soon i noticed the clutch pedal not returning to its usual height. As i drove, the clutch worked but grew closer to the floor and not returning. I headed back and barely made it with the clutch failing to work as i arrived! the pedal remains at the floor... I haven't looked at anything yet,nor looked at any manual.but thought i'd get the jump on it with an inquiry in this forum.

The OE clutch hose is notorious for busting ( splitting at the metal-rubber juncture in most cases ) fluid would all leak out so an easy thing to spot, if that's the cause The master / slave cylinders failure could be another cause. I'm sure there are other potential culprits, those are just the ones that came to my mind . I had the hose bust in mine and that's exactly what the clutch pedal did as a result..

+1 on that diagnosis. Most likely OE clutch hose failed. Notice any brake fluid on the ground?

If it is the hose, and it sprung a leak, it will be wet around the crack and you will need to replace it. I recommend that

you go with a steel braided line. It is a tight fit, but you can do it yourself with a small amount of mechanical ability and flexibility.

Thanks, A leak was my first suspicion... i didn't see any fluid but it was dark! i'll check it out tomorrow.

I've spent some money at the RS barn also! Stopped there on a trip to Virginia.Got the air box mod,the stage 1 chip, and sway bars . I bought mine from a racing friend,Ben Phillips,a New Jersey native ! he races one in SCCA ITR class which RS barn has prepared.

968 is a great car!

This just happened to me a couple of weeks ago, high pressure clutch line.

It is a knuckle scraper, and the 2 points it attaches are tight, with very little clearance, be patient. A lift would make life a lot eaier if you have access to it.

Get a motive bleeder and bleed the slave cylinder a couple of times, and you are good.

Make sure the resovoir stays full, or it will suck in air from the blue braided line off of the resovoir.

If not fluid all over the place then suspect the slave cylinder. Some have said that once the slave is changed the master will follow soon thereafter but changed my slave years ago and all is still well.
