I think Bob is working his way through a good bottle of wine in Italy at this moment... <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/cool.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Were you able to get them into production?

Oh well, it looks like saran wrap for me on the way to Savannah. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

everyone involved with this project are juggling overlapping vacation schedules - i tried to get this going before i left, but it just didn't work out - likely it will be near the end of july before i get a test fit of a prototype unit or have cost numbers for the production model

Need a mule for the prototype? I took my classic cover (that's what I am calling the vinyl POS now) for a wash and wax and it's really starting to do some damage.

i think i'll use mine - i'd rather screw up my car than somebody else's

i'm just waiting on my guy to get back from a road trip before i publish numbers and fit the prototype

Are you going to install it yourself Bob? I've done these. They are tricky. I also did a "screaming chicken" Trans Am hood bird once. Now that was fun!

i've done them before too, but this has a pretty big bumper cover piece, so i think i am going to have a guy come over this afternoon and do it on the white car - after watching him, then i may do it myself on the blue car

update:

fitted the prototype - not at all impressed - back to the drawing board - not a complete waste of time, but definitely did not go as hoped

the template looks like the hood and bumper cover came from the 993 - they didn't really fit, and required both stretching and trimming

the headlight pieces also required trimming

i didn't like the multi-piece design of the bumper cover piece either

i also did not like that it stopped short on the sides - i want the bra to basically parallel the outlines of the vinyl bra, and reach around the sides more than this kit did

the material we used for the prototype was Solar Guard - i HATE it - way too much orange peel - not nearly as flexible as it needs to be for DIY installation

still, i learned a lot about this - i'm in for about $1k at this point, and will probably spend another $2k before i'm done, but i will end up with a better kit

i will also be using Venture Shield, which is now owned by 3M for material - it is much smoother and more flexible to work with than Solar Guard or 3M

i should have more news in about 2 weeks
