Tonneau/taneau cover
#1

Is there a cockpit cover available somewhere for cabs? You know like the English cars had in the sixties? I guess they make one for Boxsters.

Although probably somewhat preliminary, any estimates on price range and material?

I am VERY interested...

same canvas as the boot cover - in fact, i am working on making it an extension of that boot cover - not sure on prices yet - if i had to GUESS, i'd say under $500 - i haven't worked out all the hardware yet that will be required to hold it down, so i'm trying to factor that all in - the canvas and such is actually pretty cheap, and the design isn't all that complicated to sew - should be pretty easy to keep costs down

Excellent. Sounds reasonable to me. I look forward to the follow up....

Will this include a nifty little storage bag?!

(just kidding!)

I have a rather clumsy product I bought awhile ago -- can't remember where I bought it. But it's made of a thin material (same as a car cover), covers the cockpit by being 1) sandwiched into the windshield by the wipers, 2) velcros to the door handles and 3) a little sandbags that you put into the trunk area. It's very clumsy to use -- you have to go to the front of the car, go to the passenger side, open the trunk -- and the wind might knock it off anyways. I find it much easier to just close the top.

But an improved design would be interesting to see....

bio - yes, it will include a nifty little storage bag (did you really have to ask?)

joseph - i've seen those - very handy for covering up the car while you run into the mall

what we are talking though about is a real tonneau that can be driven with while on the car (at least that's what i am talking about) it will zip up the middle, and attach to the car so that you can just unzip the driver side and roll it behind the seat if you want - very much like all the british sportscars used to have

Joseph,

I'm surprised at your comments...I think this may be the best 75 bucks I've ever spent. I can put mine on by myself in about 2 minutes. I roll it up and stash it in the trunk and then simply unroll to reinstall. It goes on pretty much every time I park the car and has never blown off. To each his own, I guess. If you find it easier to close the top, perhaps you do not run with the boot cover ?? It is from Automotion/Performance Products.

Sorry to hijack, but back on topic, yes, I think a cover such as this would be a great idea...looking forward to the design.

Flash, will you be offering different (stock, OEM) colors?

- Darryl

British cars have those snaps stuck all over the body to incorperate such a cover. I wouldn't want to add that kind of hardware to my car. Maybe if you could come up with a magnetic version.

lol - no worries - i don't want those either - they were a pain to wax around, and were constantly needing attention - i'm just about there on working out the retension system - we have things now that weren't around back then

Can't wait to hear/see more detail!

One thing I can say is if there is drilling involved on the exterior, I'm out. But I can't imagine Bob would sacrifice the amazingly clean and beautiful lines of his 968 for a tonneau...!

Will the nifty little bag be color coordinated or black only? Made by Burberry, Gucci, Fendi, Dooney & Burke (sp?)?!

lol - actually i was going for LV

seriously - not sure about the bag color of material - depends on whether or not it's just cheaper to buy one and package it with the unit (like the one for the boot cover) or make one to match - i'll poke around on that though

You are too much!

Well as long as we're horsing around with the bag, why not get a crest or the Design1 logo embroidered on it?! Or at the very least the 968 font in the owner's color choice! I can see you need to hire me as your coordinating consultant... It's all about the personal level of service these days, ya know!

Pink with white polka dots would work....well, OK, maybe not.

Ataboy Flash. I knew I could count on you. In the sixties my 3000 had one with snaps on the dash up tight to the windshield for it. I know no bastaradazation allowed.........but you know you never really notice them. Can't it be incorporated with the boot so you get to use the snaps already available. I'm having a little interior work done so I was gonna ask these guys to come up with an idea or two.
