While driving home from work last night the check engine light came on steady for about 3 seconds.



Car's running fine, nothing seems wrong.



Should I not drive the car? Suggestions...

Dont worry about it, on some of my cars the light came on and the problem was just the fuel cap not screwed on tightly. (emission control warning). I tightened the cap and after a few trips in the car it went out, the Dealership said that is normal (?) If it stays on but the car seems to be fine you can sometimes get it to reset by disconnecting the battery for about 15 minutes which gives the computer a "cold boot" when it is reconnected and the car is started again. Sometimes you have to have someone connect the Bosch "Hammer" to the OBD port to run through the codes and reset them. good luck, Bob Blackwell.

The most common reason my red light comes on is low oil level.

Check it out. Also you could run the blink light test and see what is being reported??

Maybe I should start a new topic but the same thing has happened to my car while driving home from work. Just cruising on the freeway ~70mph, the light will come on for what seems to be 5-10sec and then go back off. The first time this happened I pulled over right away and checked all fluid levels and everything seemed fine. It doesn't happen to much maybe once every 2-3 weeks.

These intermittent lights could be an early warning of an O2 sensor failure. Any blink codes? How long has it been since you replaces the O2 sensor? They usually get lazy around 70k to 80k miles. The failure mode is gradual over time and usually give you some early indications like poor fuel mileage.

My car has about 115K on the clock and I have no records of the o2 sensors being replaced. I guess that would be a good place to start. I'll also try the blink codes.
