check engine light flashed
#1

Just for a moment this morning. The car was just about fully warmed up and moving when the light flashed. Did not recur. Any reason for concern or follow-up?

I had actually never seen the light in operation in over 45k or driving.

Sometimes the flash is in conjunction with another light (i.e. oil)...I would check something simple like that.

The one time it wasn't oil, a vaccuum hose had come loose.

Hope you find it,

Jay

I've also seen it happen due to gunk on Oxygen sensor.

When you first fire up car lots of gunk-fuel and water can surface coat O 2 sensor. When car /exhaust get hot it burns off gunk and CEL will go out.

I had a similar occurrence this morning. The car was fully warmed up and I was about 5-6 miles from home. I was traveling at about 55mph in 6th and came upon some traffic so I slowed down and downshifted into 4th (probably should have gone to 3rd as this slightly bogged the engine down.) I gradually accelerated back into the 3-4k rpm range in 4th. About a 1/8 mile later the check engine light came on, no other lights were on. Temp gauge was just under the 10 'o clock, voltage was normal, as was the oil pressure. 1/2 mile (and one stoplight) later the light went off and staid off for the remainder of the trip (another 1/2 mile). I'll watch for it again as I travel home from work. Any ideas on what to check before I leave today? Remember, I am at work and have no tools <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/unsure.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Could always check the codes. They are stored in the ECU. This will tell you where you had the "flash".

Perhaps not related, but your temp seems pretty high. Mine rarely goes a needlemark higher than 8 O'Clock

That's where mine normally runs. In the 9-sub 10 o'clock range.

That's where mine was till the water pump failed. New water pump. Cooler temps..

I just had the timing belts replaced about 2 months ago and my shop checked the water pump then. They said it was in great shape. Anyways, thanks for the advice on the temps. I'll check into that.

My shop said the water pump was fine all along too until it comletely failed. The plastic fins were completely disintegrated.

My Check Engine light still goes on but much less since I got a new CAT and water pump. Proper temp makes a huge difference in how these cars run. jmo..

Also.. I had a bad ground in my alarm which affected the voltage which affected the way the car idled and ran significantly. It also mitigated my CEL instances when we got the ground fixed.

Now when I get CEL I put it in second gear and run it pinned for a few minutes. Light goes away..

Try cleaning your MAF sensor. That solved my problem.

Same here for months. Then finally overheated at autox runs. After lots checking and searching it was the pump. The pump axle let loose from the fins. Enough flow for street but not when autoxing. See if enthusiatic RPM raises the temp fairly quickly.

New pump and temps is at 8 o'clock.
