Check engine light and knock sensor 2
#21

I'd like to take a shot at replacing the knock sensor (#2) myself, but want to know what I'm getting into before I start. Before I disconnect the hose running adjacent to the sensor for more room to work, I would like to know what's in it. I'll be the first to admit I don't know my way around under the hood. This is an easy question for many of you. Appreciate any help.

1st ever post to 968forum! Had the same problem, paid the mechanic to replace the $60 knock sensor. They charged me about 2 hours to get everything out of the way though. No more check engine light. There were at least 20 knock codes. Over the last year. Car ran fine, but eventually just had to pay the piper.

I managed to get the knock sensor out by moving one hose out of the way and using a combination of extensions and swivels/joints for the socket that looks like it was designed by Dr. Seuss. I think it highly unlikely that I will be able to install the new sensor with a specific torque. Will the sensor still work if it is not installed with the recommended torque range?
