Charging Voltage/Dash Gauge
#21

Mine always was low on my white 968. With the key "on" but the car not running it showed only 11V. At one point I wanted to take the gauge out and adjust the reading to 12V with the car on and the engine off but I never did. Figured that braeaking something on the console trying to get the voltmeter out probably wasnt worth the effort.

The blue car, by comparison, was always 12V with the key on, about 13V at idle and 13.5 to 14 under normal use.

Who knows - i might get the white car back! The buyer now wants a 2015 Corvette Z06 and he won't want the lowly 968 any more. So maybe, just maybe, since I got rid of the 997 C4S to get a Cayenne diesel a might get a car again.

Like Arnold, Ah"ll be bach (maybe).

ok, that's weird.. could have sworn I posted right after Kim, but evidently it did not post.. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/glare.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> so here it is once more :

I bought the 14.5 voltage regulator and wondering if this is a two minute , no tools , easy access unplug the old plug in the new type of DIY , or is the location ( presuming it's adjacent to the alternator ? ) tough to access and a PITA to replace ?

Could be wrong, often am, but I think I recall the reg being on the alternator so you have a chore ahead of you.

I never bothered to look how much working room there is around the alternator in these cars, I can see the front of it ( part of the front anyway ) but I guess the regulator is tucked in underneath or behind it among myriad of other things which won't make it easy to access. And with my luck the whole SC contraption is probably in the way also..?!

You can pull the regulator off the alternator with it all in place. I swapped a 14v one with a 14.5v without too much trouble. A mirror helps to get oriented to the terrain.

Cool. Hopefully the supercharger hardware is not in the way .

changing the regulator from above is a pain in the butt. it's in a blind spot, and lining up the brush so it compresses and does not get jammed is a frustrating process. it's only 1 bloody screw, but a pain to do.

with the supercharger, it's even worse. you really have to do it from underneath the car.
