Charging Issue
#1

I thought my charging issue would be straight forward but I am still at a loss. Dash shows 10 to 12 volts depending on how much load. The battery has been pulled and tested good. All connections are clean and not corroded, and belt isn't slipping. I replaced the voltage regulator which I thought was the problem as the former one had very worn brushes. Alas that did not solve my issue.

With the car running, new regulator and fully charged battery, I am getting 11.8 volt between the battery + and battery - posts.

I get 17.9-18 volts off the alternator + post to the battery - post. It appears that my alternator is over charging (over 15 volts) but yet the battery is being undercharged?

I am getting 9.2 volts from the alternator + post to the battery + post. Looks like crazy voltage drop.

Can someone please help diagnose or recommend next diagnostic steps? Thanks!

the charge goes from the alternator via the posts on the starter motor,

I would think its time to call a auto electrician to come and help, it could be the diode pack in the alternator, loads of volts and no amps at all

The wire that runs between the alternator and the post on the starter that charges the battery is a known point of failure. I would check that too.
