Joe: CEL must be working (ie on when ignition is turned to 2nd position, be sure bulb hasn't burned out).
Turn key to position 2, hold throttle down for at least 3 seconds (might need 4-5 seconds), release gently. When code is done flashing ( sequence of 4 flashes) repeat by re-applying throttle to get next code. Otherwise, the same code will flash again. When you are done you will get the "end" code. I have a 92 and this works. I was told, however, that this doesn't work on Canadian models.

Looks like you are right on the Canadian models not displaying fault codes. My 92 Couple is a Canadian model and I do not have a Check Engine light (at least it does not come up when Ignition is switched on). About the CHECK ENGINE light, the Owners manual says "Vehicles having this indicator light are equipped with a special on-board diagnostic system. This system monitors various components of the Emissions Control System". This infers that not all cars have the ECS. So I guess the Canadian models did not require this (at least for 92). Either that or my CHECK ENGINE light is not working. Anyone else out there with a Canadian model who can confirm this?
I wonder if codes can still be pulled w/ Bosch hammer for Canadain cars. I.e. does my car still have a diagnostic system?

From what I have read all the cars have a diagnostic system and all can be plugged into a Bosch Hammer but the codes can be read by the key/throttle trick only in US cars.
