I am starting on my exhaust, and I was tossing around different ideas. My biggest obstacle is bends/welds. I am only MIG capable, but for good stainless/Ti I need a good TIG welder. We I found a local mandrel bender and a pro TIG welder. Of course the input cost would be high, but if I could get say 10 out of it, it would be worth it for me, and of course everyone else. It would be a two piece exhaust, the straight pipe and the muffler very similar to every other exhaust. I am trying to decide to do it two ways, either my stainless or possibly running a Ti system. Put the muffler in the center, nothing after, or possibly a straight thorugh 'bullet' style muffler at the end. This moves the weight closer to the center, but with an increase in decible level. The other style would be very similar to the RSBarn/B&B.
Advantages
- Of course weight...we would be talking about 10lbs for the entire system. At most 15lbs if we did a double muffler.
- Distinctive sound...wouldn't really sound like anything else. Listen to Supra's with Ti exhausts!
- Durability...Kind of a common sight is B&B's getting a little worn, well titanium has better wear properties and better durability.
Disadvantages
- Db level...may be a tad loud. To me the B&B (which I have now) isn't very loud. I am looking for something in the 95db range at WOT, to keep me in my noise violation reqs. for the track, but be where I want.
- Probably no power advantages, as with just about every exhaust. I am sure it would mate well with the RSBarn header setup.
- Potentially the cost. The Japanese Greddy and HKS's can be had for between $600-$1000, expect the same. I am not looking for any profit, just to cover my costs.
The rear half of the exhaust would be CNC bent, no welds. This gives the most optimal flow possible. I was at first going to just weld up 90 degree bends cut, but I found the local mandrel CNC bender, so I am waiting on cost per tube. Each exhaust would be pretty much a one off, based on wants. I could of course make a standard one, if thats what people wanted. I am just throwing around the idea. Of course I have no product built, but its just a possibility. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Wes
