Cascade 8 Hour Enduro - Portland
#21

Charles - I think your reply was caught in the quote section. The splitter was the first issue in the four 8 hours I've done. Pretty amazing.

I run on shaved Toyo RA-1s. My car seems to like them and they can last the whole eight hours. Not changing tires is a time saver that comes close the cancelling any advantage you would get running a faster tire. Our total time in the pits is usually quite low. Not counting the unplanned splitter stops, we would have done it in 6:19 this year. Speed showed a graphic at the 8 hour mark of their Sebring coverage showing the best pit time was the Andrettti-Green team, which was in the 9 minute range. It's not apples to apples but we're doing okay.

The rest of the story is the winning M3 (see post 7 above) had its head gasket let go after less than one hour of running after the race. They were running that car at a track day in Spokane last Friday and the car was down on power (it couldn't pull my stock 968 on the straight) and failed soon thereafter. I think Eric's approach to running stock engine in an enduro is the way to go - finishing the race is requisite to winning. What about the 25 hours at Thunderhill next year We would have to learn to change tires. I'm still amazed that the RA1's held up for the whole race.

Cheers, Stephen

You are evil. It's been on my radar for a couple years. The car would do really well if it keeps running like it has. It is a huge commitment in more ways than one.

If you are interested, I've added a video and a bunch of pictures of the event on my website. You can find it here.

Great video, it's nice to see the pit stops and outboard videos as well. The text captions were a nice touch

Eric, Great Video. It brings back some fond memories of the event. It's nice to see some of the on-track action, becasue I did not get to see much of the 'racing' from the pits. It seems like there was always something to do. I hope to hook up again and help with racing this great car and team. If Thunderhill is a possibility - I'm in.

Cheers, Stephen

Nice job on the video Eric. I can only assume that you had to be somewhat disappointed when you played back the video and saw that the camera had shifted. You still managed to find some good in-car of the in-car shots for the video. And I also enjoyed the captions and the subtle background music. BTW, did you put your old seat back in the car for this race? I thought remember you having one of the halo-type seats.

Thanks guys.

Good eye, Mike. Yes, I use a Recaro Pole Position for the enduro races because it is easier to get in and out of quickly. Plus the 'wings' on the Pro Racer seat can take some getting used to.

The camera mount will get some attention next time. It only pointed straight for about 10 minutes. I've got 6+ hours of drivers doing the same thing over and over. Quite boring with the action frustratingly just out of sight.
