35th Annual Cascade 12 Hour
#1

After a bunch of tries we finally got the 968 into victory lane. The Team EKR Porsche 968 Turbo outlasted the competition and took 1st overall at the Cascade 12 Hour at Portland this past Saturday. We completed 501 laps and ran without a single issue all day, while engine failures plagued our BMW competition. The car has a Vitesse enhanced 2.5 liter 951 motor and who says 951 engines are unreliable!?!

Here is a short video:

This IS AWESOME!!!!!! Congratulations Eric, and EKR Team.... Absolutely and simply fantastiK!!!!!!!!

It is phenomenal to finally see you take that baby home, where it belongs! 12 hours to the Overall win is an amazing accomplishment. My hat off to you, all the co-drivers, the team across the board, and everyone that certainly had to support the effort all the way from pre-planning to bubbly celebrations that I trust followed!!!!!!!!!!

Epic Cheers to All!!!!

Congratulations! This is a great win for you, Porsche, and 968s. I have a sense of how hard this was to accomplish after crewing on 4 of these with you, but I also know how good the crew, drivers, and car are and because of that it is a much deserved win. 1000 miles in 12 hours, piece of cake right. I hope you plan on doing it again next year and I'll be sure to be there.

Cheers,

501 laps! You must still be turning the wheel in your sleep . How many drivers?

Thanks guys. Endurance racing is a lot of work and very challenging, but that is what makes it fun. There were 4 drivers.

good on ya!

enduros are indeed a challenge - the consistency required really takes its toll - demanding that from multiple drivers is even more difficult - very cool

fun stuff

that's a whole lot of hood lift - i wouldn't be a bit surprised if that wasn't costing you 5mph on the straights as a result of the break in the flow, and also having to increase the front spoiler force, which adds drag - any way to lift the rear of the hood and hold down the center? that would release the air, but maintain the downforce and aerodynamics

i've had to do that before too - it made a huge difference

The lift appears to only be on the right side (driver side). Whats under there?

it's definitely more on the right, but there is also generally more airflow over on that side too

The main issue is the hood is quite light, long & flexible. The hinges at the rear also allow it to move. I can stick one finger in the gap and pull the hood up. A Dzus fastner mid span would hold it down, I just haven't got around to it.

I've had this made up a few weeks ago but never got around to posting it. It's Eric's 968 Turbo in Forza 3! Well, it's a 944 Turbo, but essentially the same thing other than the body style This is the livery from a while back.

I think I'm gonna update with the new livery this weekend to commemorate the epic win

It's kind of surreal browsing through my cars and seeing Eric's paint job show up. I really think it's one of the better ones out there. BTW, is there a story behind it? Did you make it yourself?

Nice Ren. Too bad Forza doesn't have a 968 TurboS. The livery was born out of trying to be creative for cheap. I had a red hood, splitter and wing to put on a white and blue car. I knew I wanted to get rid of the blue so this was the least painting and it seemed to match the lines of the car. I also always liked the Marlboro McLarens of the 80's-90's so maybe that was a subconsious influence. I think if I ever get another race car it will have to be painted the same way.

I've gotten comments that it really stands out and I was flattered to see it copied:
