Cascade 8 Hour Enduro
#1

This Saturday is my second attempt at the Cascade 8 Hour Enduro at Portland International Raceway. Last year we completed 320 laps and finished 3rd in class and sixth overall. Hopefully we can do better this year but the race and the competition are tough. We have 3 drivers and a full crew (including Skip of Paragon fame). Here's my writeup on last years event:

2004 Cascade 8 Hour

If anyone is in the Portland area, come and check it out. The race starts with a LeMans style start at 12 noon and ends at 8pm.

Post race update:

It was another successful run with the car running flawlessly for 8 hours. We finished 5th overall and 4th in class (P1 for 2.5 liters and up) out of 43 starters. The overall race winner was a 996 GT3 Cup car. Of the 5 Porsches in attendance only the GT3 and 968 had trouble free runs. There were also several strong E36 BMWs that ran into trouble. We didn't have the speed of some of the fast cars but we were consistent and reliable. The new RSBarn header/test pipe also gave no issues in the 8 hours. We completed 317 laps, which is a little over 600 miles.

I started the race and did a double stint for a total of 2:40 in the car. I have never been in a race car for such a long period but it was surprisingly easy at the time. But, I'm sore now. To run flawlessly while being driven hard for 2 eight hour races proves the 968 is a great car - but you already knew that.

Here are a couple pictures to start.

Well done Eric.

Did it run into the night at all?

Well done indeed!

Longest I've run is a 90-minute enduro at Road America. Coming at the end of a four-day track weekend, I was never so happy to climb out of the car...

Yes, the race is run from 12 to 8pm. The last 2 hours were in the dark. Luckily, the new headlight setup worked well. There was also a rain shower at 5pm to make things interesting.

This year I didn't get the messy dark stint. Last year I brought the car to finish in the wet and dark. Talk about hair raising! Night racing is a whole different experience.

Here are a couple of more shots. The LeMans start and one in the dark. I was kinda slow getting strapped in - but what a way to start a race!

Eric,

Congratulations on another excellent result!! Your writeups of this race make me wish I lived close enough to participate. So far none of the organizations I race with have offered the opportunity to do a LeMans start, or race at night. I feel like I'm missing out on the fun!

Looking forward to seeing some video!!

Jim, it's only what - a 4 day tow? C'mon out.

I'm always amazed how the car can do an event like this. I flogged on it for 2.5+ hours and then 2 more people did after me and the car was still the same at the end as it was at the start. It could roll out of the trailer this weekend and keep going. I couldn't though, I'm still beat.

Here are some pics that Skip took.
