Rod Bearings...anyone have a DIY

Posted in several areas; want to replace the bearings when I inspect the oil pick up and return tubes. From reading various postings on the boards, it looks like the #2 and #3 rod bearings are suspect. So I would like to be proactive and put news ones in. However, I am also tired of writing checks to my shop (which BTW, the PS pump is hanging by a thread...literally.... again so I need to call them about that once one more time....). Anyway any help woudl be appreciated. I also checked Clarks Garage and there is no mention of a procedure for replacing the bearings...so I am turing to you, the 968 Forum community for help.

In the DIY section, I'll post a procedure for rod bearing replacement that I downloaded from Paragon about 5 years ago. It was downloaded as a web document, so the photos don't seem to exist anymore. Also - I never used this procedure, so I can't personally speak to its accuracy. I had my rod bearings replaced about a year ago by Pete at RS Barn.



You might check the Paragon web site and see if this, or an update, exists - that would also give you the photos.

What's the story of having to change rods if bolts are opened, this affects the early 968 engines. The story goes the rods are not made as stiff as the later ones.



I have my 968 engine waiting on the floor so now would be ideal time to do rod bearing change but if that involves need to change the rods I need to dismantle the whole engine and that's not my plan. The engine has 60tml on the clock and has good service history.

ps:We're planning to get little more oomph out of the engine next winter (can you spell Rotrex?) so maybe we do a full engine rebuild next year.
