cam bridge tool/cam timing templates?
#1

The cam bridge/removal tool used for 968's is a 928 tool. It is supplied with two templates to help w/ cam timing (when replacing the cam,  etc).

The 968 template from chapter 15 in WSM is for cylinder number one and looks totally different. For cylinder number one at TDC.

Can the 928 metal templates be used? Are they for a different cylinder at TDC?

Hope this question is clear..

looking at the manual, the two lobes on the cams on cylinder one should both be pointing inwards at about 45 degrees, this reflects the template in the manual having just done an S2 the template is exactly the same and works just fine,

how are your cams positioned?, if the are not like the image 793-15 in the manual, then that is not TDC on cylinder 1, but possibly cylinder 4,

If you take a look at image 1058·15 in the manual it will show you the two casting marks on the camshaft for alignment,

Appreciate the help u guys. I've got a retired porsche mechanic that will do my cam swap for me. I know how to replace and index/time a cam in a pontiac 455 - lol. Think cam timing is my 968 - might have a better chance w/ a pro.

These two metal templates. For a 928. They come with the cam install tool. Any roll at all in a 968??

Obviously the template that is on page 15-9 of the WSM for a 968 look nothing like those metal templates above.
