Cab boot repair
#21

There are two manuals discussed in 2009, one is 60 some pages for a 944S2 that is apparently pretty detailed. The other was a shorter manual 20 something pages, which may be the supplement I did find.

Well, my lack of attention to detail cost me a Tenax snap. Was screwing around with some interior bits and left 2 of the 3 snaps unsnapped. The 3rd one did not hold out. Thanks for posting your repair Jim. I am taking the pic into a local upholstery shop tomorrow to see if they can do this.

Question for the gang: Where does one get a small piece of Classic Grey German Cloth canvas these days?

any upholstery shop should be able to get it for you

Joe,

give Ocean Beach Upholstery a call 619-223-9797; they do porsche restorations. i used them to recover my seats and they were able to make me a matching tool bag with material they had on hand.

how small of a piece do you need? i have been successful in getting World Upholstery to comp me samples/remanants in the past, but getting a color match from their website may be sketchy...

No problem!

While I wouldn't call the repair I had done "concours," it was way more than adequate for my tastes. And certainly more economical when compared to getting a new boot cover from Porsche.

I may eventually get a new one at some, just to have a "pristine" spare, but it is really not anywhere near the top o' the list! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

World Upholstery may be able to supply the material as well in case you wish to shop around. No affiliation, blah, blah, blah.

I found a local shop that says they have the Tenax snaps and "probably" have the material in the shop. Heading there tomorrow. And BTW, looks concours enough for a my neck race car. I've been experimenting with wind deflection - car looks like Frankenstein's monster at the moment. My design works pretty well but looks like all hell. I finally gave up and ordered the stock item from sunset. Doesn't look like Bob will have any serious design competition from the South...

Got the piece back today. Did not pay for it. The fabric was not a good match, but I was prepared for that as we perused the options together. The craftsmanship was, um, poor, and he used a chrome Tenax snap. I could have lived with everything except that - after all this was meant to be a lower cost than replacement option. But 5 black snaps and 1 chrome? Please. It just looks stupid. He said that they don't make the black ones any longer. 10 minutes on the computer and talking to the guy at Eagle Day and I have learned that there are German and English snaps. You can get the German in black or chrome, but the English are only chrome. And to add PITA to a bad job, they don't fit on the german stud. So, I get to order the snap (got an extra one for the parts bin) and the tool so that I can fix it myself in time for our trip, and worry about getting it done right later.

Lesson - that we all know. If you want it done right either do it yourself or get a reference.......

Sorry to hear about your bad experience [Image: sad.gif] Man have I learned that in spades around here, and it sounds like it's the same everywhere.
