Gauge Surround Trim
#1

OK, so I bought the cool looking gauge surround trim piece from Jager Engineering. I forked over $73 for it, which supposedly included installation instructions. When I received it the only instructions included were how to heat the glue so it would set. Needless to say that is not a help. Has anyone else installed this, and if so how did you pull the plastic off of the frame (944 641 941 01) so you could install it? Inquiring minds want to know.

There are three screws in the top of the original piece. remove them and then wiggle it off.

I recently installed this on my 968.

The surround and gauge cluster can be removed with the steering wheel in place, but space is tight. Getting the cluster out is easy.

The surround has 3 screws at the top by the steering wheel, 2 screws by under the turn signal switch and 3 screws by the AC vents. (I think thats right I have not seen my car in 3 weeks). 4 screws hols in the cluster.

Becareful when removing the connectors from the gauge cluster.

I removed the gauges from the housing (I think there are 9 screws).

Now the hard part is splitting the clear plastic cover from the gauge housing.

I used a dremel with a cutoff wheel and carefully cut the seam. The clear palstic is glued to the housing.

This took alot of time because you DO NOT want to cut to deep. Once you have split the 2 pieces follow the provided instruction for installing trim piece.

I used a little bit of hot glue around the edges to hold the clear plastic piece back to the housing.

I think start to finish took about 1 hour.

Getting it out of the car was a piece of cake. It looks like the PO glued the clear plastic to the rest of the assembly with superglue. Originally it was supposed to be spot glued. Consequently I went online and ordered another frame. My concerns being that I will ruin it and be without a frame. I will use the dremel method once I have the new frame in hand. Thanks for the input.

Mike, I installed the carbon fiber gauge surround trim and the bezel rings. If you are not using a hard material for the surround trim you can just do it without removing the plastic housing. The rings will also just pop in without a permanent bend.
