Body Shop - NorCal
#1

Anyone have any leads on a body shop in the North Bay of San Francisco? Methheads up here gave me a rear spoiler I didn't order - by peeling the rear deck up about 3 inches at each corner trying to get into the trunk. My bonehead mistake for leaving the car out last weekend.

My wrencher said there's someone good in Santa Rosa, but he couldn't recall the name when I sprung this on him this morning.

My mechanic (Modderman) recommends German Auto Body in Santa Clara - (408) 727-3368.

I've no personal experience with German Auto Body ...

Some time ago, now, my son took my 968 out on a joy ride while I was on assignment out of the country. In his drug induced haze, he lost control of the car and drove over a concrete rubble pile, doing extensive damage to the front body work and the engine as he drove the car home with a blown radiator and oil cooler. The mechanical work was done by Bauer Porsche Repair in Oakland and at Bauer's recommendation the body work was done by Uptown Body Repair. The car came back perfect. The paint was a perfect match and the quality of the work, first class. The new and orginal paint were indistinquishable from one another and that is still the case 9 years later. Bauer can be reached at 510 834-2772. You might give them a call and see if they still recommend Uptown or if there is another shop they prefer.

Thanks Chris, I'll look into Uptown too. So it's a good thing my father didn't own a 968 [356?] while I was growing up!

West Wind Automotive, in San Francisco. The owner's name is Nissim and my dad has known him for eons. He does professional high-end work that sets the standard in auto body and paint work. He once did a 560SEL for us and the car looked like it had fully original factory paint in mint condition.

Tell them Al the glassman sent you, if you go there.

I know its been a while, but did you find someone that does great work? I'm in San Rafael and need to get my "nose" done.

I'd recommend giving Bauer a call (see earlier post). Uptown has moved to location just down the street from Bauer.

I highly recommend Classic Autobody on 5th near Gilman in Berkeley. 1239 5th St, Berkeley, CA‎ - (510) 526-9621. These guys know Porsches inside and out. They've done great work on mine and my family's vehicles (including vintage 356 Porsches and Volkswagens). A++
