that's not it. it's a plastic bound handout package. that book was available to consumers. the sales package was not.

That said, I drive it 2-3,000 miles per year and there is no way I would spend $100k on making this car "perfect". I'd much rather have a better DD, something for the house, vacations, watches, wine, dining experiences, etc.

And that is EXACTLY where I am in this scheme of things.

see, for me, especially if it is a toy, it has to be the best toy i can get. that is precisely the time i do not want to be feeling like i am missing something.

of course, what somebody feels is "complete" may not be what i think is complete. after 9 years and $160k, i think i am finally there. i have no more development or projects. i have a couple of small things to fix, but that's it, and i'll get to them all in the next week or so. i already have everything here to do it, i just need the time, and i'm in the middle of a couple of other projects at the moment.

for me, running without the SC is not an option. the car is just not there without it. perhaps i just require more out of the car than most. lol - or perhaps others just don't know yet what is possible.

I drive over 10,000 miles per year. 2-3,000 wouldn't be worth it to me. I rolled over 55,000 today, and missed the photo op by one mile.

Of course the underlying restriction is always going to be budget, but I also agree with Flash. Especially for you guys in the US. You pay waaaay less for cars and fuel, not to mention labour costs. If you had to spend say $7k on a reasonable 968 then another $6k on maintainance or upgrades and then the $5k for the kit, you've got a car that can give 95% of cars on the road a fair glimpse of this car's rear end for less than $20k...What's to complain about?? Even if it cost $40k it would still be cheap. Down here to buy a pretty much bog standard 968 in good condition starts at $30k. Add everything else up and you would double that in a heartbeat. Say $25k for an awesome car is a no brainer...so long as you can afford that in the first place.

well well i can finaly say i am happy with the SC .

I all did have nothing to do with the kit , but troubelshooting the 968 with the sc on there turned out to be a bit different .

After taking it for a ride today i can say it is cured , and my troubles are gone .

Now it goes like i should and indeed is very quick , i have no need for most of the power since the speed limit here is max 80miles on the higway , and it wil not see the track either .

I did see the the alp's in france and it goes uphill very smooth and fast , at least faster than the beamer behind me

Also value of a Porsche here in europe is a bit different in behaviour than in the usa , first of all only a original car wil bring the $ a modified car like with a sc wil never make the money you put into it .

But a rare porsche original state wil cost you here , and de cs versions low milage are allready up in the nr's here , 30000euro for a good one under 80000km's .

So when i came across the dr1 sc kit , where all the modifications could be made undone , that is wat i need a bit more fun/power and i can take it of and sell it as a original car if wanted and put the kit in the next or sell it seperate .

The most fun i have is when the drivers in their brandnew beemers seat's mercedes etc or even a modern porsche , just don't get when why they hardly or cannot keep up with a 21year old almost forgotten 968 , they think they are racing a 944 poormans audi exuiped car

They spen 5 to 6 times my porsche costed me , now that is fun for me .

I have owned the 968 for 5 years and it will stay for many years to come , just like the looks of it , and there really is nothing out there with the same appeal and price range

cheers Flash

I was reading the discussions of the more power to 968. Now as the SC is not any more available, does anybody know or have experience to get turbo installed and working also well ? This question as I have had turbo cars (not Porsches) already late 80s in Finland and then in Australia, as well my son (now 30 years young) in Australia has had several those, like few Nissan 200, Nissan GTR, Mitsu Evo etc.

When he was here in USA visiting us and I and jut got my 968, I took him to test drive, made few power and speed runs and asked how he liked the car, his comment almost crushed me: 'It is nice for cruising, but there is not rally the grunt this kind of car should have to make him to feel interested and feel good'.

Ok, in understand somehow his comments, taking consideration his selection of cars. On other hand now having had the car few weeks I am starting to feel a bit the same, so again lets see my feelings after the days at the Glen.

So any good ideas to get really powerful 968 for possible track use, or should I look those Japanese 'power packs' ?!

they say timing is everything, and unfortunately you missed the boat by a few weeks. whether or not i ever make any more kits will be determined in the next few weeks, as i see what it will cost to do them in one-off form, and then see if anybody would be willing to pay that price, and wait for the time it takes to get a one-off into the production runs of the machinist and the sheet metal shop.

as for a turbo on the 968, a few have done it, but none of them have had a good time of it, and only a couple actually seem to run. most of them have to make compromises in running condition, and give up street civility. you can forget about it ever passing any sort of emissions test, as well as any thought of selling the car later. that's exactly why i didn't go that route. i had done a number of turbo conversions on other cars, but did not want to give up the turn-key drivability of the 968.

lol - nope - that is the entire reason i had to come up with this myself, and why i took so much time and put in so much effort to get it right. i am not particularly compromising, and since i wanted one for myself, it was very important to me that it was right.

Looks like the only hope seem to be with 968 that you will reconsider to do again sc or do like somebody suggested, license it for somebody else, that is what we do with OptiGolf centers too.

i can't license it out. i'm just too anal, and i don't think anybody else would pay attention to detail like i do, or give the customer support i do. i'd rather not do anymore than to have the reputation sullied.

i'll work over the upcoming weeks on figuring out what may or may not be feasible. i didn't have to think about it really, until a couple of weeks ago when the last one sold.

Optigolf?

The costs of turbo charging a 968 are huge. You need a different head (944 8V S), new exhaust plumbing, etc, etc. just the engine from Lindsay racing is $25k. Not sure you actually get any more power.

Two converted 968's to Turbo RS spec's for sale in Australia at around $80k AUD. only four were made by Fitzgerald Racing.

Bob anal? I thought you were just a dedicated perfectionist who won't compromise the integrity of your products! Lol. Mark, kh968 ran the Glen in a stock 968 and was pleased with his car. You met him. He had the other red 968. I suspect an sc will become available somehow someway. Patience!

Anybody hear anything about the low-boost turbo IMA Motorsports was working on awhile back? Cosimo?

i'm guessing there was a reality check there. IMA's stuff is great but pretty pricey. they probably figured out that it was not going to be cost effective. but certainly worth following up

Flash. I hope you do offer the SC units again or find someone you can trust to put them together the way you'd do it.

I have to agree that the fastness provided by the SC kit really sneaks up on me because it's so smooth and quiet.

Just like drinking Sake, it sneaks up on you untill you check the speedometer.

So quetly fast, that I've decided to keep the stock muffler (for now). My car feels like a true GT now.

Granted, I may not have had enjoyed the PCA Skills Day if I have had this kit installed ... won't get all the shifting & sliding fun.

But on the road, I need this. I was down shifting 2 gears on my daily commute until I got this kit !

Financially .. too late for me now, I've probably spent more than what I paid for the car, but I'm too numb to feel it now (and that's why I bought this unique used Porsche in the first place).

To me, Porsche 968 is like a P-51 Mustang.

P-51, despite the original excellent aerodynamics by Edgar Schmued and NACA, became a real fighting force only after the supercharged Merlin engine was transplanted since "B" model.

968, with its excellent chassis, reminds me of the same.

I and perhaps other's on this site would feel a whole lot lot better about how much we spend on our 968 if there was a larger demand for the car a greater public appreciations for thecar and therefore more interest in the car.

It is a toy, but is also the backup car and occasionally the daily driver when the other cars are in the shop.

I personally like driving it in the rain. I also enjoy driving it more in cold weather when I can turn off the ac and the colder air is more dense. I would expect about 10 15 more hp without the ac and about 20 more in n the colder winter Florida weather. (Ok lots of oxymoron such as Florida winter, and occasional daily driver, but you understand).

Supply and demand. ?. The supply is low but the demand just doesn't seem to be there.
