That does bring up an interesting point : the loss of power when the AC is on, and driving when the weather is really warm. I doubt anyone has performed either dyno tests or time runs on this car with and without the AC activated to record yhe actual difference , but I would also expect a material power loss with the AC on. Maybe be a lot more than just 15 hp - feels like at least 25% slower.

( bummer too, because I run the AC all the time : I always have it clicked ON, and can't remember more than a handful of times in the last 10 years that I turned it off..I need the cabin at meat locker temps at all times ) As for hot weather, that by itself must take away significant hp also so drive in 100 degree temps with the AC on, and better yield way to snails passing you in the fast lane :-)

the AC definitely pulls power. it's about 15hp on our car (made a mistake and did some runs with it on)



the difference between 75 degree weather and 100 degree weather can also be about the same



it's definitely something you can feel, but it's all relative. the losses are pretty much the same naturally aspirated, so the gains are the same, relative to the starting points

re AC : still a bit better than in my 944 - when the brake pads were wearing thin all I had to do is turn on the AC and the car would come to a grinding halt...almost like downshifting into first gear, LOL

Florida winter spring mornings are often in the 50s to 60s. We have a quarter mile entrance ramp that's curvy winding . That's were I can have the most fun



. I need to start covering the car in the sun. Most of my ac usage comes is because of the the radiant heat from the interior. Window shades help but I need about 8 of them 2 for every Window. Cracking the sun roof helps a lot, but there is always the far of vandalism or rain. I'm working on a solar powered rig that will run a fan and keep the interior at ambient temperature

I must say that this weekend I had the A/C for quite a bit of my 5 hour drive and I constantly thought there was something going wrong with the car. My wife made some sort of comment like "you better not blow up the engine again" <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/blush.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

I had a bit of hesitation or stumbling in the background, thought I might have a vacuum leak or the clamp had come off the blower hose again.

Anyway, it seems to clear up a lot if I turn off the A/C so there must some interaction there. I even had the idle run high once for no reason.

It would be interesting to know how ambient air temperature affects engine performance. Does a chart exist that tracks this? All I know is that once the air temp hits 60 or below, my car really comes alive.

Wow - I just got back from 100+ temps for hours at a time - with the AC on - and the car was great. If that performance was down then I must drive those roads again in the winter - I'll probably end up in the ditch.

For those of us who could not care less about market value, and have the funds to do it it seems like a no-brainer , but even thenjust as Jake pointed out, it may very well be different priorities that drive the decision to go for an SC or spend that money on something that one feels offers a greater value to them.
