Best source for floor mats
#1

I'm going to get a new set of floor mats. Who do you think has the best source now? The dealer? I wonder if I can get black mats with Porsche lettering in mint green??!!! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Try Loyd's.

You can probably get mint green Porsche letters. I am pretty sure they do custom orders.

I recently ordered Lloyds mats from Hardware Accessories (http://www.hwaccessories.com/LDM/LD-Por-Mats.htm), and recommend them for fast service, good communications about order status, and of course the Lloyds mats are excellent quality. Turns out they're actually in Maryland (my state). The set of four (two front, two rear, with double logo front and no logo rear) cost me about $150, including tax and free shipping. Plain mats start at $86 for just fronts, $106 for all four. Single embroidery (front only) mats are $106, and double are $136.

I picked Hardware Accessories because their prices were in the lower end of the competitive range and, frankly, their website was the easiest to order from and it had all the options I wanted right on the website. And they quickly sent carpet samples before I ordered.

Hey Jeff -- I just checked their website and they do have a 'seafoam' green that actually might be a close match for mint. They also have a regular green color.

Here's my tutorial on floor mats:

I had checked a dozen different websites and the prices seem pretty similar (most advertise the set of 4 for around $136), until you start pricing the embroidery. Some sites' price included one logo embroidery, others included none, and one or two offered double logo pricing. You had to price out the options to get the final price. In addion, some charge shipping, some had free shipping over a certain $ order amount, and some charge tax (if the company is in your same state). Some websites required you to call them for pricing. For example, I wanted double embroidery (both the Porsche logo and the 968 logo) on the front mats. Some sites let me price and order that directly and other sites didn't seem to offer anything but a single logo, but when I called them, they said they could special order it, and they had to back to me with pricing.

The mats turned out great. Baby has a linen grey/classic grey interior. (light grey carpeting, seats, and lower trim area, with medium grey upper trim area/dash) The mats I ordered are 'classic grey' with 'Porsche' in red and the 968 logo below it in charcoal so it blends in with the mat color pretty well. Perfect! Subtle but effective. I also ordered a mat for the back deck of my cab ($89, ouch) in classic grey and for some reason I ordered just the 968 logo in silver....thinking the lettering would blend in with the color of the carpet. I would have preferred the charcoal color instead, as it's a closer color match to the carpet color. The only major nice thing about having the rear deck carpet is that it covers the less than stellar hinges on the 'seat backs'. And it's nice to have some protection if something on the back deck spills or leaks. But it's probably not worth the $89 price tag, so I'd skip it if I did it over.

One note for anyone with a linen grey interior: Lloyds "linen" color is NOT our linen grey. Their 'linen' is more of a taupe/yellowish/beige/tan grey (if that makes sense) than the whitish/pale grey carpet in our 968. The previous owner of my car had ordered that color and never used them because the color just didn't match. He was right, and I ended up selling them.

Most companies will send you carpet samples so you can get the best match. Some sites didn't specify 'classic grey' -- instead, they had up to eight different grey colors. I ordered samples of all of them (they're 2 inch squares) and the best match for my car is actually was the classic grey. I was hoping to get a light color for the mats so they'd blend in with the carpeting and add brightness to the floor area, but could not find anything to match the linen (light) grey. So at least they match the other interior color and look sharp.

You can also order a mat for the rear cargo or trunk area on some sites.

Hope that helps! Let us know how this works out for you.

Cheers,

Kathy

what is the backing like? i need 2 sets, but all i have been able to find are the ones with a foam back - i want the woven ones, like original - also, i wan the ones that use the plastic clip with straps, like original - that worked really well at keeping the mats in place

got any shots of the bottom, showing the bottom facing and clips?

I ordered mine from the following link. Autoupgrade was the least expensive and the only place I found that would sell only the fronts. They have a wide selection of colors and thread color for embroidery. I called them and asked them to send color samples because it was difficult to tell the exact color match on the computer screen. They were more than happy to send as many samples as requested.

Thanks so much for the input. I've given up on a working hold clip. They've had the pin style and the mat lock strap off of the seat track and I didn't have good luck with either. I now just adjust them when i get in.

flash,

My current set has the clip into the track that then attaches to a black plastic, adjustable squeeze buckle. I want to get that style again but can't find a supplier. If you find mats with that style attach/adjust mechanism, please post and/or pm me.

Thanks,

Brian

Hi,

I would opt for the dealer, perfect fit and the correct fittings. You even get an allen wrench to loosen(and tighten) the bolts from the seats....

I'll take a photo of the underside of the mats and the clips when I can get over to my mechanic's shop today or tomorrow. (Baby's in the shop due to her headlight motor problem, and the silly snow yesterday means she's captive there til the salt and water are off the roads--speaking of the motor, yikes! $1100 for a new one from Porsche or from Pelican Parts. Or $42 or $75 for used ones on eBay. Hate to put another old motor in that will likely need replacing again, but I can buy and install a lot of used motors for the Porsche price. I'm looking online today for other sources....any suggestions welcome---see my post about this if you have ideas.)

I can't remember what type of clip came with my new mats, will take a photo and post. I actually had not put the clips on yet, so they're still in their bag in the car.

And guess what I found in my garage today? A sealed bag with four mat clips, and paper that says "Genuine Porsche Floor Mats" with a copyright of 1989. Looks like the original clips, never used. Probably were in the car when I got it two years ago. Hmmmm.....highest bidder?

The best solution for holding the mats that I have seen on a 968 I only saw once. It was two hard rubber pieces that were actually held under the seat by the seat tracks when bolted down. They extended forward and had a catch the pointed up. Then the mat had two small holes in the rear of the mat that went over the catch. They didn't move and were easy to remove and install. This is a similar design to what you see on new cars today. I only saw them that once and never again. I don't know who made them.

Mine have the metal clip that fits into the seat rail and the nylon straps with the plastic clip on each strap. I like it, seems to work for me.
