Looks like you got the zipper installed! My '59 Mercedes 220s Cab has the zipper rear window. It really does help preserve the plastic as it doesn't get all scrunched up when the top is folded. Lookin' good!

thanks guys - it came out exactly like i wanted - i missed having this feature - even my mgb had one - it's so cool to be able to roll down the windows and zip out the back window and let the air flow through, but not get fried by the scorching sun



so, now i have the tonneau for winter top down, the zip out for hot day driving, and a new top in the event that i ever see wetness - woohoo!!!



i'm not sure how duplicating this would work, as it needs to be part of a new top, but i'll look into it - installation is normal, so i guess he could make them, but i know for sure that he would only do it as a complete top, and only using GAHH tops as the basis

Flash, that should be really nice while cruising the beach or boulevards. I wonder if we can rig something for the our coupes as well, kind of a sliding porthole in the middle of the greenhouse. Are you sure that is a Lincoln? My father had a Mercury Monterrey in 1972, and the rear window looked just like that! The "signature" rear window with the top section of the window sloping outward. As kids we would kneel on rear bench and lay our arms on the trunk lid while we cruised around in the summer. That was WAY before seat belts were mandatory, and we all survived! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

really nice. The one thing I hate about my car is that rear plastic window when I drive with the top up. I would have it zipped out all the time....

should be as water tight as any other top with one, which was never a problem in any car in which i've had one - there is a flap that covers the zipper, so it should be fine

Ahh, you need to start with a new top. I'll probably be doing that in a few weeks anyway, but I've already ordered the Novus and the buffer to see if I can get any progress made with this one first, so I'll keep you posted.



As my company makes a lot of UV inhibitors and plasticizers for PVC, vinyl and other car components, as well as all forms of adhesives, I'm talking to some of the chemists about how to replace just the window or to bond something like a Zip-Loc fastener system to a thin remnant of the original window and a new piece of window material. I'll let you know if there's any progress there.

since the window folds in half as it goes down, i think you're going to have a problem with any ziplock type of securement - bonding a new piece to the strip of old window might work, if the adhesive can stay flexible in temperature change and direct sun exposure

Luckily the window still has a bend radius, even when folded, that doesn't violate the fasteners I'm looking at, and I can even source reinforced sections for that if necessary. Regarding the temperature and UV exposure, that's exactly what these guys do every day, so I hope they have some good suggestions. My concern is more one of fogging of the adhered areas and how to trim it attractively.

the corners are going to be the issue - they tend to kink and bend up pretty tight when it's going up and down, which i think is going to make the ziplock idea fail - bonding might work though - good luck
