FYI, the Federal government in there infinite wisdom decided at some point that all brake fluid should be clear or gold. So as such ATE Super Blue is now illegal to sell in the United States. The DOT apparently just did a random test of ATE Super Blue and determined that it was blue and didn't comply.

Wow, that sounds just idiotic. It's so nice to alternate between blue and gold to be able to tell when the old stuff has been flushed out. Any idea what the government's objection to blue brake fluid is?

I must say, a weird file name. Some threads are thinking it's a hoax and others are saying their distributors are telling them to pull it off the shelves.



I run diesel in my tractor and sometimes get the red stuff - If they dip your truck and find you have red farm diesel in your tank heavy fine because the road taxes are different and less with the red stuff..

i'm actually very much in favor of getting rid of environmentally unfriendly chemicals. it's the right thing to do, and exactly what the planet needs to start healing. sometimes though it's a hard pill to swallow.



we'd be in a lot better shape by now if the danged conservatives would think with something other than their wallet. they continually soften up the emissions restrictions on vehicles, and refuse to fund alternative energy development, as well as continually hinder other environmentally critical measures, resulting in what will be, in our lifetime, a disastrous outcome. we really need to get over ourselves, give up the idea that we can continue to dump our antifreeze in the drain, and start using our heads. our economy won't mean a hill of beans if we destroy the planet, and we're doing a danged good job of that right now. have you been to the beach lately?

Yes. Have done that in all my cars, for years and years.. Although the car has no leaks, if and when it does I want to easily identify exactly which fluid it is. If I had one of those fancy-schamncy garage floors that are completely non-absorbent maybe the " CSI process " would be a bit easier, but with just concrete , or even the pavers in yhe driveway fluids get absorbed / blend in too quickly and it all looks the same color unless you catch it while it drips.. The few food color drops you need ( tne liquid version , not the powder, LOL ) to color any given fluid are harmless.

Isn't food coloring water based? Wouldn't water compromise the effectiveness of the brake compression?

Yeah, this one is bizarre. The memo makes no mention of any environmental impact of ATE Super Blue - it's strictly based on following some convention of automotive fluid coloring out of fear of someone putting the wrong fluid in the wrong reservoir, or something like that. It sounds like a bad parody of an example of government incompetence. Maybe this will be a rallying cry in the next election. We can only hope...
