Do you like it? Tell me about it... I'm thinking of getting one but I need some actual customer info before I'd buy one...

A search here and on .net will give a broad variety of opinion (and that is one of the great understatements of the centure so far).
I know that Damian on .net is running one and is very happy with it.

Beware! The level of animosity on some of these threads can get pretty high.
As an overview, it seems that 968ers are equally happy with the PROMAX and Speed 6 chips. Both offer similar performance gains (discussion of which accounts for much of the disagreement) and reliability. The also are similarly priced. The rep (Andrew as I recall) from PROMAX is very helpful and responsive. Bob Larson (Flash) is a passionate defender of the Speed 6 chip after he personally conducted a chip test for 9Magazine. His test of several chips did not include the PROMAX.
Bottom line - Both the PROMAX and Speed 6 chips seem to provide a fairly inexpensive real performance boost. I have been meaning to buy a PROMAX (I've always been an Anglophile!) but just have not gotten around to it. Since I am putting a new battery in the car tonight and had to do the clutch master and slave cylinders and a hydraulic line last weekend it may be some time before my wife gives me any more garage money.
Hope this helps.

Oops! I've been saying Speed Six (probably some old Ruger .357 flashback) - did I mean Racer X?

Good to know my mind is not completely gone..
But then of course the internet is just not good for compulsive people. I must have spent 2 hours this afternoon looking at old Rugers.

I used to be such a gun nut. I could passionately argue the .45 side of the .45 v. 9mm fight, single action v. double action autos, etc. Then I went to war a couple of times. I learned two things: 1. when you have 14 120mm smoothbore cannons and a whole bunch of machine guns under your command your pistol caliber is somewhat inconsequential (this has changed recently for armor guys - a buddy is commanding a tank battalion in Iraq right now and they left their tanks at Ft. Carson and drew M-4 carbines) and 2. guns are less fun after you have to actually use them.
Having said that, in the past few years I have picked up a few rifles; a Garand and a Czech made K-98, and have seriously thought about buying a CZ-75. I had one in the late 80s and it was as sweet as a handgun gets.
My Gold Cup always lost it's front sight after about 50 rounds. Was a nice gun though - very tight.
This is clearly a late Saturday night, margarita-influenced, post of no relevance to the original question. My apologies to the chef.

I don't put much stock in just the Seat of the Pants reviews of aftermarket chips. A dyno test is also important to me. Additionally, some chips perform well at the low end and others better at the high end so it may depend on how and where you want to drive your car. I'm waiting to chip my 968 when I see more hard data.
BTW, anyone who owns a nice 968 probably needs a sidearm to protect it. I prefer the ParaOrdnance .45. Then again, I live in Idaho and some of the people are wilder than the animals.
A close friend found a live (and testy) bull moose under his porch deck this week ( picture attached) I encouraged him to lasso it but he chickened. Would make for an interesting video. Maybe I should drive my 968, remove the sun roof, and have him try lassoing it from my car? But, alas, no bumper to tie it off on. That would make a GREAT video. On second thought, how about we use YOUR car? We call him Marvin. He appears to not like any Porsche.

I think someone said it earlier in this thread or one of the others. The chips are going to react differently in every car. There are so many variables to consider. The charts don't lie and both chips were so close that it is a wash. You probably won't feel the seat of the pants difference between the two chips... With that said I would support our sponsor <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> It sounds like Flash's ass is just more sensetive then others... lol j/k
BTW for the first time since the site was started I have had to increase my Bandwidth!!! Even though this costs me money I think it is a great mile stone.

I'm still getting used to 4 cylinders instead of the 8 in my 928 so I was thinking a low rev chip would be the trick to get some "jump" going off the line and up to about 80mph. However, you're right in that revs make the difference. On the track in the 928 I'm always in 3rd or 4th gear...4k-6k rpms about. I've not had the 968 on the track so it does seem that the high rev chip might be the way to go. Hummmmm....something to ponder. Decisions...decisions.
I chipped the 928 and I didn't notice a great deal of difference but I'm glad I did it. I've not chipped my Audi Quattro TT turbo 6-speed but it revs from one gear to the next that I'm not too good at hitting the shifts like I want to. Revs are everything in that car. The Porsches are 5 times the car. I only have the TT because the wife likes it. She also loves the 968....comfort!!!
