Anybody installed an auto start?
#1

I've seen that at least a few of us have installed the Bulldog 1702 keyless entry system, but has anybody installed a remote start system? I want to do at least a keyless entry, but I figure if I'm going to rip into it, why not throw in the remote start as well?

if you talk to dan sandru, you might think that is not such a good idea - there is a pretty humourous albeit scarey thread about it here

I don't think DS968 had a remote start installed in his car.

The issue is that the 6-speed car does not have a neutral safety switch in the shifter / gearbox, so the car can be started in gear. You would have to be very very confident that you left it in neutral.

no, he had the ultra rare "self-start" option

i meant that opening up the potential for the car starting with it in gear is the problem - he had his stuff itself into some trash cans when it started all by itself - accidentally hitting the start button would be a real risk if you park in gear like most of us do

This car's electrical system has enough gremlins . Ok, so it ain't Lucas, but it must have been Lucas' cousin ( who moved to Germany? ) that designed the 968 grid.

A remote start system might increase the chances of a surprise similar to the one I've had. Just give it enough time - your solenoid will perform that function

System: Circuit City's CSI 600

My system has the capability, but I haven't had the time for the install other than the remote entry. It did come with some safety cut off switches for the shifter and hood. On my system remote, the button is small, recessed, and has to be pressed for 6 seconds straight.
