poor grammar usage is a HUGE pet peeve of mine, especially during a real live conversation. I don't mean accents, I mean "EYEtalian"... Whom, who....the old "at' ending, "I seen it" ..etc...JUST PLAIN HURTS MY EARS!...I feel it is a combination of for the most part lackadaisical education and social upbringing ....and it seems to define payscales. Whether it is because people don't want to better themselves(as if appropriate grammar usuage can better someone, I don't really know) or that they are not exposed to correct grammar, or both, I am unsure.
speech patterns really divide society... As for spelling errors and grammar in posts, It does not bother me at all.
...people are who they are. As long as they don't f**k me over, I don't really care... I gave up caring(see below).
Which brings me to another subject: the overall s***ty attitude of the American workforce. Unfortunately, in my line of work, I get to point out other people's errors on a daily basis. It makes me really sensitive to poor workmanship and poor attitudes outside the workplace. For example:
story#1:I have been driving the same 40 mile stretch of pavement to work each way for 6 months. Through at least 8 major snowstorms, the DOT was never out salting or sanding the roads before 6am(except for one stretch where I am sure some DOT worker's mother had to travel to work, because this 10 mile bit was ALWAYS salted!). I had to drive routinely through 6-10 inches of unplowed snow on the highway onramp! Get the hell out of bed and prep the roads before the rush hour!
Story #2: same 40 mile stretch...due to poor planning, the newly paved section (1 year) had the left lane stripes sandblasted or an acidic paint was used because, by the end of winter, there were 67 6 foot long 3-4 inch deep oval potholes involving every left hand lane marker (obviously the lane marking paint stripe was now gone..replaced by the hole) SOOOOO...how does the quality American worker fix it??? They come along one day and paint really nice bright new shiny lines right through each pothole. What a bunch of crap.
Story #3: wonder why gas prices are so high? Wonder why the national debt really sucks? Gee, why can't Iraq pay for some of the BILLIONS (reminds me of Carl Sagan..'billions and billions...') of $'s spent on the war with "reimbursement" oil. Oh yeah, that reminds me, why is the war off the front page..American's still dying there. What the hell are we doing there anyway if we are not getting the oil? PS. Want to make good money? Invest in military supply companies and oil companies (at least until we all can't stand to pay them anymore)
Story #4: I can't stand the way all major news channel reporters think they have to 'emphasize' their verbage to get a story across. Eventually, I switched to McNeil Leherer...then I turned it off for the last 3 years.
Story#5: why must the slow f**k always be in front of me in the left lane? (and I don't mean the guy doing 80...I mean the REAL slow driver)
Story#6: does anyone in this country really do anything of quality anymore? Look around. Are most jobs service related...? Do we manufacture the little things anymore? Where is the 'skilled' workforce? I just love the business with 3000 employees all making just above minimum wage with no benefits, and the huge bonuses given to the top dogs (trust me , I am not complaining about this one) It is like everyone has graduated high school and kept the same attitude the rest of their life. Toyota was going to build a huge assembly plant in a small southern town a few years ago. Why did they not build it there? Because Toyota evaluated the attitude and skill of the 'local' workforce and deemed it to be too s***ty to be useful!
Story#7: WHY do we pay sports 'stars' and movie 'stars' big bucks...these people really don't deserve it, at all. They are ultimately just 'entertainment' which could really al just be replaced with a giant computer animation. Instead, we should pay our top scientists and engineers and teachers the big cash.
These are just a few of my favorite things.....there are many more
thanks for getting me going, Flash ...
