rhude - you have to remember that, like any dealership, the dealer could install anything the customer wanted - a lot of things were installed that were not "standard" options too - i have now come across at least 2 dozen cars with one option or another that were installed by the dealer prior to delivery of the car, but either not on the option list or the stickers for the car - i can't even begin to imagine how many are like that
it's not at all uncommon either - we've done that with the last 2 cars we've bought - we had things installed by the dealer, prior to us taking delivery, some that the dealership doesn't even sell - they will all do whatever it takes to sell the car - it has always been that way - porsche even makes a big deal about that - they will quickly tell you that you can "order anything you want" - it has even been in their advertising - it was up to the individual dealer whether or not to order it from the factory, or to have it done locally, or do it himself
with the 968, especially toward the end, when they were slashing prices and couldn't sell them, people saw the limited option packages that the factory delivered to the dealer, and that there was no chance of getting what they wanted easily, so they just had the things they wanted added of changed - but the factory paperwork doesn't show it
as an example, lsd was a thing installed in quite a few cars that did not have it when they arrived at the dealership - i've found a few now that the original owner had it installed prior to taking delivery - so were the bigger stereo systems, full power seats, and 17" wheels - i've even talked to a few who didn't order that stuff, but the dealer had put it in the car, having removed it from another car - they swapped stuff all the time - all kinds of stuff goes on at dealerships - unless you can talk directly to the point source, there is really no telling what your car "came with" or didn't at this point
6 years ago i passed up on a black cab (it was a tip) that had a black/white deviating interior with black pinstriping and porsche crests - it belonged to a used car dealer's mother, who was the original owner, and told the dealer to do that when she bought the car - pretty sure that color option was not on the list, yet that was how it was delivered - the guy was really trying to sell me the car, and made a big deal about the custom seats and stuff, and showed me the paperwork - no chance i wanted the car, but it was interesting
so, it is quite possible to see almost anything - running around the country to these different events, and seeing how many original owners, or owners with complete histories there are has been enlightening in how, in many cases, it has illustrated that the factory documentation is incomplete in telling the tale of the car, what it came with, or what was possible
