%$#@!& Airbag Light
#1

Please accept my apologies in advance for beating a dead horse. However, a search turned up nothing.

Here's the mystery....

My daily driver is use to rain...seen plenty of it this year. I arrive at the office. No Mothership Light, no issues, running well, has been for months.

I start the car a few minutes later to run an errand (warm car, still raining) and on pops the Mothership Light and Airbag light. I know the gas pedal trick, so I turn off the motor, wait a few seconds, turn the key to the #2 postion, depress the pedal until the Airbag Light flashes, then ease off the pedal.

1-5 (the "all clear" code) flashes and the Mothership and Airbag Lights remain on. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/dry.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> I try again hoping to see the previous code to 1-5. No joy. Still flashing 1-5.

5 days later, %$#@!& Airbag Light is still on and flashing 1-5. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wacko.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/mad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> Any ideas - water finally shorting something somewhere after all these months/years? Or do I suck it up and have the dealer find the top-secret hidden gremlin?

Thanks for any help.

Best,

Do you have water in your footwells? If so, that's the first thing I'd look into. Here is a thread about my footwell water resolution.

Buzz, I believe the blink test for the DME computer will not show why the airbag computer is ill. They are two separate units.

That still doesn't solve your problem. How about just cutting the wire? <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/unsure.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Greimann is correct, the blink test only works on DME faults, the airbag module has a completely different fault diagnosis system. You really need to refer to the shop manual for more info. Or, just cut the wire! That's what I did. Now my kids can ride up front and I don't have to worry about a bumper tap triggering my first gen airbags and totaling my mint interior.

I posted a how to on this...

You mean it really IS the airbag and not a DME fault code? <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/blink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> I never though of that - DUH!

The triggering of the airbag light can be done in various ways.

So is the solution also forever or not.
