engine management
#1

Is anyone using a totally stand-alone engine management solution such as the Wolf, Motec, etc? Anyone have good/bad experiences? Who tuned it? What issues did they run into? What does it do great? What should it do that it doesn't? Any feedback here would be greatly appreciated.

while i have no personal experience with them, i have heard of a few people using the motec - they have all been turbos though - in a normally aspirated engine, theoretically you could gain a few hp over the chips out there, but it would very likely be minimal - if you were bound and determined to get every last pony out of her, this might be he ticket, but there are a lot of things you can do along the way that cost a lot less - those things are pricey

Thanks. This is for a normally aspirated full race engine, it's already expensive. ;-) This will just bring it all together.

Hey Jeremy

check out Megasquirt 2 they are much cheeper, they come as a kit or some are sold assembled

with a harness. I,m running one in my truck but you need to decide if you are going to use

it just for fuel or fuel and spark.

its easy if your just using it for fuel but gets much more complicated when using both.

the system will learn a basic setting by itself then its all you.

they are for sale on ebay and have alot of support as well as forums but these systems take alot of time

and patience, you might consider the stock setup with bigger injectors and adjustable pressure regulator

I'm not trying to shy you away because its been a great learning experience, after months of

tweaking on the laptop and a thousand 4 letter words later I've finally got it ripping.

Good luck Doug

No experience with it but Vitesse has a piggyback unit that seems affordable and does a fair amount of stuff for afar less than a full blown ems

I have Autronic SM-4 for my car...what is it you wish to know?

It's all about the tuning, and the tuner...find someone who knows their product, and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Autronic is a wonderful unit as far as I'm concerned...I had Haltech before, and Autronic is light years ahead.

sweet - anybody have any before and after test results? unless it was over 10hp, i could really care less about dyno charts, since, without spending a couple of grand, it is all but impossible to duplicate everything to the extent where you could really get accurate comparitive results - what i am looking for is real performance numbers like improvements in accelleration and such (40-70, 60-100, etc)

unichip told me that their piggyback might give another 2-3hp, but that was about it, and at a cost of nearly a grand - not worth bothering - but if i could get some real improvement........

you know me - always after that little bit extra

Thanks Jason. I will look into Autronic.

What made you decide on them? Who tuned it? How long did it take to tune to yours and your tuners satisfaction? Have you used it to collect any telemetry/data logging?

Have you had to contact Autronic for support? If so what was the experience?

Thanks for any info you are willing to share!
