Ahhhhh Salmon Time in Washington
#1

In keeping with my fishing updates from the rivers and lakes in the Seattle area, here is the latest. I have been tring to catch summer run Chinook for the last couple of weeks on the Skykomish River. I haven't had any success, but this weekend it all changed for the better. My take was one single Chinook Jack, but it was more than I saw anyone else catch this weekend. It's rough going, but I finally have seemed to be able to shake the salmon block.

If at any time you happen to be in the area, I'll do you one better and take you out to get your own. All 968ers are welcome. As for that fish, well, he is no more. I ate him less than 12 hours after I pulled him out of the water.

G/F Still has the digital camera, so I don't have pictures to post yet. Maybe my next day off.

Due to previously unforseen complications, I am missing out on my annual Oregon fishing trip for the fist time in 12 years! I am jealous of your fishing adventures. Oh. well, there is always the fall run.

I stand corrected! The hell with it all, I'm going anyway! Oct. 5th, it will be time to hit the Oregon Coast for the big boys in Tillamook Bay. Yeee Haww! OK, I've been down here a bit too long.

Good For You!!! I have been smacking the Humpies around for the last month or so. They taste OK as long as you prepare them well, but they are a little small (5 or 6 pounds is average) but still fun to catch. In a couple more weeks, Coho will start showing up in fresh water. Then fall Chinook and Chum. Planning on a chartered trip in November, if anyone wants to go, it will be the right time of year for a real mixed bag. Coho, Chinook, and winter Steelhead.

There is nothing finer than fresh smoked steelhead. Last year I flew back with about 10 lbs. in my backpack. I threw a party and broke out the good stuff. Even the southerners were impressed.

Honestly, I think steelhead is too good to smoke. I grill it, broil it, bake it.... any way you want it. There is truly nothing finer. I have about 20 lbs of Pink salmon that I have smoked so far this year. The Coho have just started showing in the rivers, and it won't be long until the fall kings are here. I love this time of year!

Just passing this along. My buddy who lives (and fishes) in Washington just sent some pix of his latest outing. Wow, the dog is going to eat good this week!

It's been a while since I have posted an update, so here is a quick rundown of the latest. I have just finished moving, so I didn't have much opportunity to fish lately. Two weeks ago I fished the Puget Sound for kings (much like the ones your friend caught Dave.) I caught one in about three hours that was a little over 17 lbs. Not really big for a king, but plenty tasty. This Sunday (October 16th) one of my favorite rivers opened, the Dungeness near Sequim WA. The Coho run isn't quite in yet. I saw a few fish, but they were not really interested in anything I could throw at them. I got bored after a couple of hours and switched to my fly rod and fished for trout. I caught and released close to a dozen fish in the 12-15 inch range for the rest of the day. I plan on going out in the next week or two to see if the rest of the run showed up on the Dungeness. I'll let you guys know.

Sorry Lemming, If you find yourself out this way again there will be salmon until december or so, and steehead until march. Then there is a lull until june when the rivers open again for trout and the spring chinook season starts.

Here are a couple of pictures I didn't post earlier of my Spring Chinook Jack from earlier this season. He's small (for a chinook) but awfully tasty.

Micah

P.S. More pics to follow soon.
